poncho62 I wouldn't worry about it until you start driving it............might free itself up.

MI2600 Probably. Speedometers are comparatively simple devices with a very cantankerous spring which you really don't want to mess with. The shaft rod the needle rotates on goes through a hole in the housing. That's where the problem probably lies.

montea ok thanks, i was reading some threads and its the bearing in the front that needs the oil?

MI2600 It sounds like some rust may have formed in the speedometer head preventing the needle from dropping back to zero.

You have a 2-3 options. You can just drive it and hope it frees itself. You can remove it and gently lubricate it. Or, you can just replace it.

sticky speedometer?

in my 82 grand prix why does the spedo stick, i cant drive it yet because i dont have insuarnce or even primer but when i rolled down the driveway it went to 15kmh around 9 mph, wich could be correct but then when i stoped it just stayed there for a long time and finnaly droped back down again slowly.

i know it does leak tranny fluid out of the spedo cable hook up on the trans.
