Use total time at 36 deg. don't worry about static time. Idle should be lower. I set mine so the tranny doesn't load up.

timing at idle
My question is about timing at idle. This is my setup-
Done-up Chevy 355 10 to 1
comp cams exreme energy 507 510 lift
240 244 @50 dur
AFR 195 heads 58cc cnc ported of course
Edelbroc RPM air gap manifold port matched
Done-up holley 750 tuned
85 0lds cutlass 442
200r4 that chirped with the old motor but I will smoke it soon probaly
3.73 stock open 8.5 no slicks for me
My problem is that I have the stock HEI that I freshend up and am replacing soon, but do not know what the timing should be at idle. I believe it is at 20 degrees initial at idle and 30 32 at 3000. The motor idles at around 900 out of gear and around 750 in gear.
The motor has about 2 miles on it plus the cam breakin so far (i just started it 2 weeks ago). I took it around the neighberhood and with just tapping the peddle I can tell its going to be little bit before I get used to the power.
I have gotten some ideas of horse power from the AFR dealer and compcams but I was wondering what you guys would give in?
