|ko.17||thanks for your input. the car has a chrome roll cage, more for looks than anything else. not sure about anything else that may be done. i was looking at adding frame connectors.|

I responded to a similar post about this the other day. Unless you are running big sticky slicks and have enough traction to pull the front tires you really don't have anything to worry about. What breaks and twists things is traction. Putting all of that power to the ground is going to be difficult if you are running a stock rear suspension on street tires. You really have nothing to worry about except maybe tire wear.

Your axle should be the GM 8.5 inch 10-bolt.
It should hold up to the 400 horsepower no problem, but you will risk stuff with more power, slicks, and the like.
As far as the body goes I would look into aftermarket unibody bars that weld to the front and rear frame sections and also weld to the body in between.
You may want to look into some good measurements before doing so though, to make the car hasn't been too "tweaked" in the past.

will this rear end hold together?
i've been searching past posts to see if anyone has broken a rear end or axle because they had too much power. found one post but didn't really see much that would apply to my setup. the engine will make 400 plus hp when finished and the car is a 76' camaro with a 10 bolt posi w/4:10 gears. at point should one consider swapping rear ends to a 12 bolt. i've also been told to watch the body for twisting and rippling. should i be concerned about either the rear end or body?
