RJL That is an interesting test, however it is very narrow. There are many variables that were not discussed,temp or the track conditions, driver reaction time etc...Also correct me if I am wrong but one flow test was done with water. Was the system mandrel bent? www.jdsdiagnostic.com Now there is a site that will provide you with the tools to know what works well with your individual set up.

1BAD80 Thanks to all on the info. this was a good posting. I run Warlock mufflers, they really have a deep, rasping sound of their own. Plus there is like a headed cap that can be removed by 3 wing nuts in less than 5 minutes for an open exhaust. I recommend that you look at them, I also put on Wazoom 3 1/2" extension's on the output for even a deeper throaty sound. I heard a lot of comment's from the car club on the different sound of my car. This is the sound I have been looking for, not like Flowmaster's. Just a little noise. I'll get a PIC to post so you can see how they look. George

RJL remember an x pipe collects gas into one area then out. An h pipe equalizes gases already traveling by. Exhaust does not flow it pulses. CFM ratings do not always tell the whole story. You must also compare dyno results. Some CFM ratings are a result of flowing water not hot pulsing exhaust. Research is your best friend on this issue.

bullheimer pretty much looks like Magna Flow's are the best, since everybody used them in the engine masters challange. also farther back IS better because it does help the gases move faster. seems all mufflers cool the gases, the less pipe the cooler gases have to go thru, the faster they get out. now i know why my camaro's are virtually tucked under the rear bumber!

I have heard of them, thats the same place I got my exhaust setup! Those mufflers with the Dr gas X are the bomb!

I talked to the guys at Dr Gas and they claim that setup will gain you up to 10% gain in hp!

fordracing im with u guys to everyone i know runs flowmaster and i have been told by some racers that they are over rated i want a muffler that rumbles at idle and sounds good when u stomp it i am thinking of going with flow techs red hot glass packs any suggestions would be great

6567GTO I'm with you guys. I'm running mufflers from a company that I bet no one here even heard of - Straightline Performance. They're a great sounding muffler. Very well made and their flow numbers are awesome too.

black66 I put Magnaflow tube style muffles with any x pipe, dualed all the way out on my 66 Impala. The x pipe is the only way to go.... Makes my my sbc finally sound like a real muscle car....Great, deep sound at idle. And awesome sound when you stomp on it.....

I agree that everyone one seems to want to use Flowmasters......I live in Reno, Nevada. And during Hot August Nights, every other car sounds the same.......What a shame......

CHEV66JB I went with the Flowmaster system for my '66 Chevelle, but then put Dynomax mufflers on it to have a different sound. Couldn't justify the price of the flowmaster mufflers compared to others, plus I also was burned out on hearing alot of cars sound the same way.. What happened the old days when people WANTED to sound different? 8^[ Just my 2 cents.

6567GTO ztoy, I love it! Between the 3" sewer pipes and the X-pipe it really breathes. No need to even open up the headers. Although it's fun to do once in a while... <img src="graemlins/evil.gif" border="0" alt="[evil]" />

1bad80 - Thanks for the link. I see where it says that about going with a 3" exhaust with 250-300 hp. They were referring to a single exhaust ricer motor. Which makes sense because I've heard that it's not necessarily beneficial to run 3" exhaust on a V8 with anything under 450hp.
