That has been one of the things that drive folks a bit buggy..but oh well..gotta have them..
If you have ever seen the results of a clutch explosion then you would want all the armor plate you can get..But then I digress..
ask your tech guys if they will accept a shield made of 1/4" steel formed around the bell housing..it is a pain to roll and form but it will work..of course by the time you buy the steel and get it done the one from lakewood will seem cheap at twice the price..
I should say the a steel scatter shield bell housing will out last several cars so it is not all that bad an investment..
Just my thoughts..

Scatter blanket is designed to cover the body of the transmission, and a bell housing or scatter shield is still needed for the event of a catostrophic flywheel failure. You need to remember the rules are to protect you. A flywheel or main shaft will take your leg(s) off before you know they are gone. Spend the money.....

Scatter Shield & Blanket
Somebody explain why a Scatter Transmission Blanket is only for Automatic Trannies? Will, or can they work for a Standard Trans? I run a 3spd Saginaw.
The reason I ask is a Scatter Sheild or blow proof bellhousing's cost big time Cake$$$, and a trans blanket can be had for under a $100.
The new rules for my race car say I must run a scatter shield of some kind. I've honestly thought about a real thick piece of belted rubber.... But I'm not so sure it would pass, it would with demo cars, or some other tracks. But I'm not sure about ours.
If I ran a high revving mill (this car doesn't 5500 RPM) I would have no problem spending some cash for safety, but I just don't believe this thing is gonna come apart on me. I put it in 3rd gear, and go, no shifting.
So, will a blanket suit my Standard? If not who makes cheap Blow-Proof bellhousings?
