We just launched a new site, run by Hotrodders.com. It's called the Crankshaft Coalition ==> http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com .

The Crankshaft Coalition will be a coalition of automotive forums, just like this one. We'll be joining together to discuss issues that are common to running an online automotive community.

The Coalition was formed in response to the forced takedown of HRI, the Australian hotrodding site. With the help of several free speech organizations and lawyers, we put the Aussies back online at Ozrodders.com, under American administration. Part of the motivation for forming the Crankshaft Coalition was to ensure that something like that doesn't happen again, either in America or elsewhere.

The Crankshaft Coalition is intended to be a "professional" forum, as I'm sure you can tell by the cheesy white background and lame colors.

If you're the leader of an online automotive community (moderator, administrator, etc.), or if you want to help us develop free software to give away to automotive sites, or if you're just really interested in what's going on over there, I invite you to join up.

If you have comments, questions, feedback, or criticism -- please let me know in this thread.

Thanks -- much appreciated.

Yes, the Australian situation was a huge mess, but it came out alright. My hope in starting the coalition is that such things will happen less often.

Most of the technologies that we use to serve this site are based on free software. I think that people will be interested in developing free software for automotive sites.

I'll check out those links, might be useful for us.

I am a Mod over on N-Body.net so I registered in hopes that the coalition will help me become a better mod. I also passed the word of the CC to the mods and admin over there. The more info you have the better. Awesome site and great info. Thanks JON
