gumby I would have to agree with deuce roadster. go with a "new" crate engine

TurboS10 Well, concidering the fact that even a stroker engine will run 50,000 on the street very easily if you dont scatter it, I would say either MIGHT be a good choice. It depends on your plans. For the street in the 400-450 HP range I think the will be fine. Try to push 500 or more, and the cylinders will surely split unless grouted. If tall grouted, the streetabliliy becomes seriously limited.

Bartman39 Deuce Roadster... has a very good point... "NEW" has a future the others dont... Also the newer iron is of a later generation and has more improvements as he mentioned also... If spending that kind of cash go with the new and enjoy it much longer...

Both of them are dead players IF you ever need to rebuild (bore) them. Both are thin in the cylinders.

I would pass, but I can build my own engines. For you..... GM has a new 383 Crate engine and a short block too. If you can wrench a little....... buy one of the NEW ones and go form there.

ok, im looking at 2 crate engines, but the only problem is, they are both bored out kinda far.
thery are from speedomotive, the first is a 394ci made with a 350 block and a 3.8 stroker crank. it is a factory 4 bolt block bored 60 over(yikes)

the second one (the one im leaning towards) is a 414 with a 400 ci block and the same 3.8 stroker crank. this one is a factory 2 bolt block, with splayed 4 bolt main caps. the only problem here is its bored 40 over.

they both have all forged parts, and long 6" rods, to offset some of that rod ratio that was given up by switching to a stroker crank. the 400 stroker costs $400 more than the 350 stroker, but i dont know if i trust the 60 over 350 block. that has to be close to the water jackets. im thinking the 40 over 400, even tho the cylinders are closer, have more wall material than the 350 block. and i like the idea of the splayed 4 bolt caps and extra inches too.


what do you guys think?
