adtkart Most all auto trans have on the dip stick how to check the fluid. They tell to check with engine running, and warm, and either in Park or Neutral. Checking one with the engine off will usually cause a high reading due to the fluid that has drained back from the convertor. When you first start it, the fluid will be picked up, causing a lower reading. They you wait and the fluid level will raise as the temperature raises. I really don't recall any that said to check it in gear. I must have missed that one.

69ChevelleAddict My dipstick says to check it while engine is fully warmed up, and idling in gear.
Sometimes I use park but if I have a friend present I put it in drive with e-brake on.
