mac302 I would say either the leveler or the carb plate would be a good idea. But I would not pull the trans with it. Especially if the intake bolts do not thread deep into the alum. head. Hate to see anything bad happen like it did to me. Stripped the threads right out. Liked to laid down and cried when that 400 b-block fell 4 feet. <img src="graemlins/pain.gif" border="0" alt="[pain]" />

Bumpstick My preference is to use a carb plate... Just have the intake installed and it bolts were the carb sits... They are simple and have multiple holes to allow for balance and spread the tension out over a large area...

big455 I would suggest getting one of those engine levelers, they have a chain on the front and back. you connect each side of the chain to a head asc. hole . that way you have four seperate lift points, this should distribute the weight enough that you should'nt have to worry about the aluminum heads. this is what I'm going to do with my moto, I've got aluminum fastburn heads from GM on a 383.

installing motor with aluminum heads

This is probably a stupid question to most of you but i'll ask anyway,{I'm still learning}. Where is a good spot to attach the motor hoist if using aluminum heads. When i pulled the old motor i bolted a chain to the accessory bolt holes on the cast heads and pulled the motor and tranny together, is it safe to do this with aluminum heads or should i attach to something else.Its a 383 with th-400. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
