Can't see that the tranny was just sitting in a cradle. Upon hard driving the rear of the tranny would jump right out of there and hit the floor.
Also, having the mounts that far apart puts a lot of strain on the bell housing bolts....not recommended. Side mounts started in the cars in 1958.

Engine and transmission mounts
Looking for insight from the experts on the forum.
At a cruise-in last night, I saw a 32 Ford street rod with a small block Chev motor and TH350 trans. I noticed that the engine was mounted using a front mount saddle, and after looking under the car, that the transmission was supported at the aft end of the tail shaft. The tail shaft was resting in a 'V' shaped cradle and was not directly bolted to the transmission - just resting in the cradle. This was an outstanding coupe all around.
I've heard that the early small block Chevys used front mounts but don't now when the side mounts came along.
I'm wondering what the pros and cons are for the front mount, and also if the transmission support I saw has an advantage over the traditional rubber block mount between to the crossmember and transmission.
