Gotta love those aftermarket parts. I bought a Weiand aluminum "high flow" pump for my SBC and the back cover hit the timing chain cover.
I did the same thing you did, took it back and went with the stock Chevy water pump.
Keeping it simple seems to be the best plan.

|Classix_Lover||Well, if you have any cooling problems with it which I doubt you will, at least you'll know that it's probably not flowing fast enough. However, that pump should cope with everything so no worries. Glad to hear you figured it out and for future reference, a puller fan is probably more efficient than a pusher but not by much (don't listen to those over-exaggerated results saying a pusher's only 80% as efficient, more like 90 range if that at all).|

|Streetmaster||ThanX guys for all the responces, and yes the summit chrome water pump, is the long version. The only problem i was having with it was the fact that it is bulked up to much in the front, because i guess its a high flow pump, and when i placed a two belt pulley on it, the pulley would rubb against the front of the pump. So i had to put shims behind the pulley, and that would put the alignment of the pulleys way off. So i said the h#ll with it and i bought a new stock pump, and problem solved.|

Did the short pumps come before the long pumps? I always forget. I wanna think that his truck would have come with a long pump from the factory but I cant remember.
Electric fans are sweet though, I use a dual setup on my truck and they work great. If you install an automatic switch with the fan you dont have to turn it on and off all the time. I think automatic switches run anywhere from $35 to maybe $70 depending on what you buy. Then just wire a toggle switch in somewhere on/under the dash that you can use in case the auto. switch fails or you need the fan to run constantly.
I rewired mine with a painless kit too but I didnt use that wire. It's tiny. It would probably work if you use it to switch a relay but I doubt it will carry enough current to run a fan.

|Henry Highrise||Sounds like you replaced a short water pump with a long one. You need the right pump for your belts to work etc. Chevy SBC ,they have two different pumps, short and long.|

GM made two styles
make sure you have the right one
*only if your truck over heats you will have to put in a power fan
a toggle Switch from summit will do fine $6.99 to $19.99

? about an electric fan for PU.
Hellow again, got a ? about an electric fan for my 76 GMC PU. I got one of those Griffin aluminum 2 core rads, along with a chrome water pumps from Summit, that seems to stick out a little more than what a stock pump does, which meens i have to make some adjustments on the pulleys to align the bets, and i wont have a lot of stud left to bolt my clutch fan on. So im goin with an electric fan instead. My ? is, would i be better off with a push fan, that sits in front of the rad, or a pull fan in behind the rad? The motor is a .030 350 sbc, with a miled roller cam. Plus the truck is wired with a new Painless kit, that has a wire for the electric fan. Which brings me to the ? about the best way to wire the fan switch inside the cab. I would like the fan to come on automaticlly when the engine heats up, plus be able to turn the fan on at anytime with the switch. (Please Advise)
