I have a Ford C4 trans that I would like to install a shift kit in.It is probably from the late 60's or early 70's. How can I determine what year the trans is. I am told that there are two different kits for the trans depending on what year it is. On top of the case is stamped what appears to be CH573845. Other part numbers are also visible on the trans case and tail shaft. Any help would be appreciated.
I don't know all the details but I know they made from 1966-1969 C4 with 24 spline & 10 1/2" bolt pattern (dipstick in case), 1970-1981 C4 with 26 spline & 10 1/2" bolt pattern(dipstick in case), 1970-1981 C4 with 26 spline & 11 7/16" bolt pattern(dipstick in trans pan). Bolt pattern is torque converter to flywheel. Maybe this will help.

If there is not an assembly identification tag at the pan or servo, the valve body will have an ID tag attached that will give you the year of assembly.
