|mustang66maniac||thanks for the thought squirrel, but i've researched the hell out of AOD conversions into 66 mustangs. I actually just found out after I posted this message that "Metric" AODs are no different than regular AODs. Ford just wanted to advertise that the internals were metric as opposed to english, like c4s or c6s- kinda like what willys36 said. There are PLENTY of people who have done it successfully and I've talked to a local tranny shop who will hook me up with everthing i need, including improved internals. They actually didnt make electronic controlled AODEs or A4ODs until 1994. Thanks for the reply.|

I am in the process of installing a Metric 200R4 GM overdrive in my '53 Chevy pickup. Metric transmissions are evidentally Detriot's homage to political correctness; everything American is evil, everything form socialist countries is sacred so we must go metric. Regardless, they are regular transmissions, just need 10mm & 12mm wrences to take off the pan and valve body bolts. Granted, they are not 'plug-and-play' like the old 350 or C-4 but if you set them up right, they can't be beat. Throttle linkage is CRITICAL. Must set it with a pressure gauge. I am using parts and advice from Bowtie transmissions but I'm sure there is a company on the web that specializes in FixOrRepairDaily cars. In fact, contact <a href="http://www.700r4.com" target="_blank">www.7004R.com</a> and they can probably put you in touch w/ a Ford dealer.

|strtsquirrel1681||Stay away from any type of AOD for your older pony, unless it is built by a professional. I have seen so many of those transmissions lose overdrive and burn up very quickly. They are not a strong tranny. go with a c-4 c-6 or even a manual t-5. If you do go with a AOD, the newer is better, but watch out some are computer controlled which are called AODE's and AODX's.|

I just got an AOD from an '88 5.0L mercury cougar to put in my 66 mustang. I thought it was just the same as every other AOD but i just noticed the transmission pan is almost perfectly rectangle and on it is says "Automatic Overdrive Metric". I looked in my ford racing catalog and on their shift kit for the AOD the pan gasket looks nothing like the shape of my pan. I've never heard of an AOD metric. Has anybody ever heard of these? Are they the same as an AOD?? I was hoping to put in a shift kit, and a manual/automatic valve body. Is this still possible? Any help is appreciated.
