I like the Gearwrench brand. I have several sets of them and I use them alot at work. I have used them for about 2 years and only had problems with my 9/16 that i use the most. It had a catch in it where in wouldnt ratchet in either direction so i tried to break it so I could take it back. I had to use a 3/4 inch impact and an allen socket. They are a very good wrench for the money and are alot tougher than i thought.

I've been following your posts since you joined here a few months ago,and I went through the same series of questions myself when I first started buying my own tools 35 years ago,and again when my son took an interest in twisting wrenches.
The best tools out there for the money are probably Craftsman and SK.For a guy who isn't turning wrenches for a living, and doesn't know if he is going to make a career with tools, they are a good choice. The price for any given tool is about 1/3 of any of the tool truck brands, the quality is good, and they have a warranty. Some tools in each line have problems, such as Craftsman ratchets, but overall, they are good usable tools that will serve you well.
My advise is to try to buy american made hand tools, primarily for the quality of the steel used to make them.In the case of Gearwrench, you can find versions made in China and USA.Buy the american made ones, regardless of brand. The chinese ones wear out faster and strip the teeth on the ratchet easier.
If and when you decide you need a professional set of tools,by then you will find out what brand of tool fits you best. Some guys stay with Craftsman, others find they like Snap-On,or Mac,or Matco,or Cornwell. It all comes down to personal preference, just like shoes from Nike or Converse.
Start with basics first, like a 3/8 socket set, combination wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, hammer, etc.Build on that by buying tools as you need them and can afford them.
