my friend wants to buy a car for street/strip racing he wants to retain a stock looking outside except for wheels and hood and near stock interior. he also does not want to have to put a lot of money into it to make it run around like 11-12 he was thinkin about a foxbody mustang or like a grand national but he doesn't really know. he has about 7-10 grand to spend intotal for the car and go fast parts. i was thinkin pick up a foxbody for like 2500 and put the rest into it and it'll run like 11.5 but i don't really know

it's in 1/4 mile and some of them built them themselves the grand national the kid's grandmother died when he was 10 and left the car to him so he was workin on it since he was ten and he is 18 now, we have a 60 sumthin nova with a 454 and a 4link hooked to a 9in rear the kid bought it with the 454 and put the rest in his car runs 10.4, and i think he's pumpin juice into it. there are 17 f-bodies in the parking lot with about 3 of them in the 10s all bought that way. (they are only in the parking lot sometimes because they are not daily driver cars), we're thinking about starting a racing club, one day a week we get out early to do something in a after school club. so i was thinking about making a drag racing or a car club. it's funny the kid with the grand national will come into school pissed cause he broke his rear about every other month, he refuses to pay money to get a rear that will hold up to the power he has so he keeps rebuilding the stock one (it's kinda stupid cause he has enough money in the stock rear to buy like 2 beefed up 9inchers)

Sorry, but unless you supply some proof, like time slips, pictures, location of track etc.............I have to say......BS

Don't waste our time with this...........................

If you want to know what car to build up , fine but, lay off the stories.

Poncho, you jealous or something? Kids have more money now than they used to, especially when dad's with a bit of cash to throw around get in on the act too. Even if he IS exagerrating a little, it's not hurting anything. F-bodies that are street legal but not driven much running 10's is believable. I wouldn't want to drive it much either, not if it's an N/A car! Cams must be real "lopey". The kid isn't completely talkiing out of his *****... he obviously has some clue as to what's going on, at the "knows enough to be dangerous" level, but also knows enough to ASK more experienced people, and enough that the conversation is intelligent; you can expect him to have a good grasp on at least general racing/performance concepts. That's more than I can say for a lot of kids, like this one's friend who keeps pouring money in something he KNOWS is gonna break!!

I wish I had the money some of these kids seem to have now! I still wouldn't be able to put it in a car. One of these days they'll get out on their own and wonder how mom and dad managed to keep up their level of living and have money for play cars too!!

When I graduated HS My dad gave me $1200 which I spent on a 400sbc from my best friends truck {real nice, 2.02 heads, forged dish pistons, roller rockers}. I worked at the Ford dealer and cashed my checks at the parts store... for three months straight. I ended up with a 4-speed Monza, inline shifter, blowered 400 sbc that would spin wrinkle wall 10" slicks into third gear. Kids can do it too.

$10,000 now? 87 T-type/GN/ Regal body with a bullet proof 454 {eagle crank & rods, arp bolts and a good set of forged pistons}. a 550" solid cam with 112 lobe sep huffing thru a set of ported peanut port heads {may need domes to get the compression up there} and about 350 hp worth of juice. a 3500 converter and 3.42 gears. Drive able and still yet bad to the bone. You'll have enough change to spare.
If you know the right people or are able to do the labor yourself you can squeeze {pun intended :p } a 177 blower on it {use dish or flat-top pistons depending on heads} and keep the 350 Hp NOS kit.
It'll look killer and run 10's..all the time letting you drive just about anywhere your heart desires on pump gas.

i can't give you any proof about this cause i don't have a digital camera but these kids parents give them a bunch of money cause they are like doctors and court people and such. and my buddy just said his mom said he's not allowed to take any car to the drag strip but his dad is like i want you to build something quick so it looks like it's gona B a street racer or a show car

Not allowed to take it to the drag strip... that's the STUPIDEST thing I've ever heard! There's "adult supervision" at the strip (safety rules/regs that everyone has to obey), and no one is going to get arrested (well, not for going to fast) and lose their license, something that would be with him for a long time -- especially if caught street racing. He and everyone else is SAFER on the strip! Plus he'll learn a lot more around more stable individuals there than the type that make street racing a regular habit. I'm not talking about the occasional "pick-up" race many of us have been involved in, I mean hard core street racers. Not a good crowd for a young man to hang with!

i only have about 9500 in my 88 chevy right now and im running 11s but that doesnt include the turbo 502 that is being built. as for an 11 second ride in high school i had my 305 turbocharged vega running low 10s and drove it everyday until i drove it to the track with slicks and had to drive home in a down pour then i built this truck i beleive as long as the kids are responsible with the power they have and dont act stupid they wont kill themselves

drag car

If you are interested in a ford, try a 66-69 falcon 2 dr.They have the same size eng compartment as a mustang or fairlane, meaning a f/e eng ,or a 385 series 429/460 would fit in, also would be easy to put a st axle under the ft end, also its ugly,if you need a better reason. I would like to do a fairmont/zephyr, but they are too new.

I wasn't insinuating that accidents don't happen on the drag strip. But there are safety inspections and rules, and guard rails for spectators. You're not likely to hit a car parked on the side of the road, and if you act like the clown in the Chevelle who was way to eager to start, you're not gonna be running! If you go to fast, more safety rules apply. You have to agree, there's a whole lot less chance of a major accident on a track than on the street!

much as I hate to say it, but i really don't think i could afford to do a whole lot of racing in a ford. chevy stuff is a half to a third of the price. but every freaking one runs a sbc. but on the other hand, i'm just sick enough to drop a bbf off into it. just for spite.

anyone have a line on a 65-66 Mercury comet?
