1000 hp transmission?

I have a boss 429 stroked to a 572 in my pro-street car. I don't race the car, it is a street car. The engine put out over 1000 hp and 850# torque.
I was looking at a 5sp. jerico. Is there a different street trans. that can take that kind of power?

Thanks,

-Eric

Wow,, where did you find a set of boss heads that flow 475cfm?????

A Jeffco would take that hp and you could also down shift it...

My heads was work over by EPD. They have jesel rocker arm 1.8. ratio. The valves our titanum 2.450 intake and 2.00 exh. 14.5 compression, duel four 1150 holleys.Comp cam .825 lift 304 dur. at .050, 4.500 bore, 4.500 stroke. The engine was a 1969 boss 429 i bought in 1997. The engine put out over 1000 hp.

Hey! I have a situation here with a '68 Mustang and 600 CID that was built using a Richmond 5 spd.It was no good to drive.Too many gears and a 1:1 5th that took the car nowhere. The owner wants to get a Toploader but I am saying it will crack in pieces. Now what is this Jeffco? Does it use synchronizers? How does it compare in load capacity to a Lenco and a Tremec?

And someone mentioned the good old Liberty business. Are they still around?

Yeah, none of the Richmond trannys will last long behind 600 cu in. They are only rated for 400 or so ft #s of torque. Front main shafts turn to scrap metal.

Edit: Libertys are still around and are being used alot nowdays in Pro Stock. Jerico is still available also.

He could run tall rear gears and figure out a bunch of low tranny gears and wind up with a good freeway gear out of it. There are like 800 + gear combinations available for those trannys so the is no limit to what can be done.

Ok.But what is this Jeffco? Some new brand of gear boxes?

Our Mustang 600 is not that powerfull.I mean,it should be in the 1:1 ballpark.
Evidently we need a special tranny. But is so much torque that you can not drive it around town without screeching the tyres as you lightly open or close the throttle in traffic. It is too much engine friction.Maybe this Jeffco can handle the task.

As far as I know Liberty used to soup-up OEM boxes.Anyone know their address or e-mail?

Google up "Jeffco transmission", "Liberty transmission", "Jerico transmission".

Liberty may have started out supplying aftermarket parts for existing trannys but I can assure you, their 5 speeds are not OEM cases. I don't know of a 5 speed Jeffco but that doesn't mean he hasn't started making them. I am only familiar with a 2,3, and 4 speed Jeffy.

I would say that 600 hp with much torque at all is getting close to being beyond the structural integrity of a O.E.M. toploader case. This would certainly be the case if you were launching a well hooked car in any acceleration contest (Drag racing). Cases distort and cause gears to break which can lead to the associated gears, shafts, bearings and 90 weight to end up under the rear tires of the car in question. This always costs more money then the perchase of the proper transmission in the first place. The ATI Glide can be made to work reliably but not at 1000 hp in a stock case. This would require a hardened input, good pump, straight cut gears and a dedenbear case. Besides, it don't sound like you were after a glide anyway.
