30coupe Thanks deuce!

Now I am suddenly overrun with rearends <img src="graemlins/drunk.gif" border="0" alt="[drunk]" />

Another buddy just offered me an S10 3.55 posi. Price is $0. Hard to say no.

Which one should I go with. I'm not sure, but I'm guessing the comet is NOT posi and is prolly highway gears. As light as my coupe will be, I kinda think it better grab with both feet or the 350 will cause uneven tire wear.

Deuce The rear end will work.
This is a rare deal because the Comet's came with a 250/ 6 cylinder, so FOMOCO put the V8 5 lug rear end under it. The smaller 6 cylinder cars have the 4 lug rear end.

Nice score on the rear end. Your friend is indeed a friend.

30coupe A friend of mine found a Maverick rearend for me. It's actuatlly in a comet, but no real difference. It is a six though will that matter? The axles are for 5x4.5" bolt wheels.

30coupe Thanks for the link roadster. Lots of good stuff there!

30coupe Hey deuce_454 are you talking about the constant whine from the wife or the rearend?

I'd like to see your Jag info. I can't find anything on National's website about Jag stuff though.

BOBCRMAN@aol.com being on a budjet and if you get the rear free, yes the 7.5 will hold up under your light model A it just doesn't look as good as a 9"or 8" under there.

Deuce The BEST CHEAP rear end for a Model A is a V8 Maverick. 8" Ford gears and it is 56" wide.

Just be aware that POSI's are very difficult to come by.

Next is a 57 - 59 Ford car rear end.

Check this out:

deuce_454 what you really need is a quick change center for your A-ford rear... which is easy for me to say as i am not going to listen to the constant whine..

to be perfectly honest a hot rod is a work of art, not a car that should be built to a certain spec. so if you have a rear end from a toyota with the gearing you need, stick it in there.

personally i like the jaguar IRS as it is indestructible, has disc brakes, looks cool and makes for a much better handling car. (i even heard that national drivetrain has a mountain of centersections in various gearing for 50$ each.) if you like i can e-mail you a battle plan for fabricating brackets and so on.

my 0.02$

30coupe Anybody have one? I would use one if I could get one at a reasonable price.

Rick Yocum I've been told that the Grenada 8-inch will stand up to a 350 quite well. Several rod builders use them regularly.

rearend for a Model A

I am in the process (does that ever end?) of building a 30 Coupe street rod. I have a 350 Chev. to go in it (quadrajet, street cam, etc.).
I sort of plan a driver with attitude rather than an all out racer. I haven't settled on a rearend yet. My son dragged home a 85 mustang rear, but I think it is too wide and too weak (7.5"). I have a posi rearend out of a Toyota pickup lying around and an told it will stand a 350, but I just can't bring myself to stick it under an all steel Ford.

Granada rears will fit, but are hard to find around here, esp. the V8 (9"). I think I can pick up an S10 (4cyl) rearend cheap (prolly free). What do you guys think of this one? And before you tell me to go to currie's and have a 9" built, let me explain - I AM MARRIED! Do I need to say more? She already wonders when this is going to end, so explaining about the 3 grand for a really neat rearend would be done in court. I hate lawyers, so I need a cheap, reliable rearend that I can stomp occasionally, but not beat the ***** out of.

Thanks all!
