The width on the Camaro rear axle .....is it compatible with the 40 ?? Wide enough or too wide. I have never built a 40 Chevrolet so I do not know what width you would need. I would measure the width of the stock rear end and try to match it fairly close......
Measure the 40 rear end this way.....
and the Camaro the same way...
I would most likely try to get a master cylinder with the same bore as the Camaro.....

See thats why I asked..... I never thought about no key. The rear end I will use is out of a 99 camaro not the Caprice. So if I use a disc brake rear out of the Camaro and a Mustang II from end I cant use the Caprice Master cylinder correct? The caprice is only for motor and tranny but I was just thinking what a waste to scrap everything else. Thanks, I know Im asking a ton of questions but I really appreciate the replys.
I just reread your answer, I got it. So which master cylinder to use? Dont people use s-10's? Do they have rear disc?

The master cylinder NEEDS to be matched to the front brakes and the rear brakes.....and I remember you wanting to use a disc brake Camaro rear........so the Caprice ( which had rear drum brakes ) is NOT the correct one. With a disc brake upgrade on the front and rear....you will need a master cylinder designed for disc brakes on BOTH ends.....
The Caprice column may work.......but are large, bulky and unattractive IMHO.
A lot of rodders use the Chevy/GMC van tilt column....it is smaller, NO key in the column and has a neutral start switch mounted on it. They also have the gear shift selector indicator on it ( lighted )...

Steering colum and brakes
Alright,, you guys have been a huge help with my front end and rearend questions. I have some more issues. Ok, my donor car is a 86 chevy caprice it has a Summit crate 350 and 200 r4 tranny for the drive train of my '4o chevy. I was looking at it and wondering, Can I use the steering column and brake master cylinder and booster? I noticed Camaro and Nova colums are used, why? Is it the length or what? I even thought about trying to use the power seat, might be a little too wide though. Thanks again guys.
