I'm sure if I read through all the topics, somewhere my question has been answered already, but this is more direct. I'm setting up my 9 inch for a 4 link suspension. I need to know how much the pinion if offset, I can't seem to find anthing to accurately measure from. Are any of the center section studs centered? I'm trying to get the brackets in the right spot, so I don't want to guess where to measure from. Thanks

Measure from the outside flanges. The pinion is offset in the carrier but its still in the center of the housing. The axle tubes are different lengths to allow for the offset in the carrier. Measure the center of your frame rails and go from there.....GlennK :)

If you're going to have the rear end narrowed I prefer to have the pinion centered. It gives the driveline and "U" joints less angles to deal with. It's also next to imposible to see the offset housing from the rear of most cars.

Centerline

You need a measuring plate for what you are doing. I would give Mark Williams a call. I think they sell a plate that replaces the center section and has a slot cut in from the pinion center to measure from. You may also be able to get these from Summit or Jegs. Dont do any cutting without it. Also just a little tip I learned the hard way. If you dont leave all the studs in the case, the plate will go in up side down. That seems to cause problems....

I just ran a search on Mark Williams, didn't come up with anything, do yo have a web address?
Just to try and get started, I heard/read somewhere the pinion is offset 1.5 inches, so my brackets should be 1.5 off to the side to keep the pinion centered, is this correct? Again thank you. Mike
