I just got some Soff Seal door rail rubbers for my 86 Monte and this will be a project for next year.My buddy has some experence with installing this but I was wondering if anyone has any tips or knows of anything you can use to help the rubbers last longer. Thanks
Chances are the replacement rubber is of much higher quality than what was original, should last much longer. The main thing is clean them when you wash the car and wipe them down with a rubber preserver that does not contain silicone (not Armor All).
One thing we all face with new rubber is how sometimes doors and decks and such don't close just right after installation. This is due to the grip that new rubber has with a fresh finish. Here's the solution...baby powder. Put some in a cup and use a small paint brush to coat the sealing surface of the rubber. It acts as a nice slick dry lubricant. Smells nice too No liquid products I've ever found worked, in fact just the opposite. Gave new rubber more grip. Good luck, hope this was helpful.
