Olds From a backyard mechanics point of view, ha,ha, Sure it will work. It's amazing the things you can do with a torch and a bit of ingenuity. I once put a rear end from a 1970 Camero, posi 373 into a 68 Firebird and was running a 350 Olds Rocket out of a 69 Cutlass for power on a 3speed auto tranny. Took a bit of playing around and measuring but it worked. I realise this was a totally wierd application but we did it over a case of beer with what we had in the junk yard at the time. I drove the car for two years and I mean drove it and never had any problems except things I did to it myself. Go for it.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say something about that. Housing floaters are designed for use with ladder bars and leaf springs. With ladder bars, the axle has a diffferent plane of travel than with the original leaf springs. The floaters allow the axle to use the ladder bar travel plane and the springs to support the wieght of the car.

They will not work for what you are doing unless you want to install ladder bars.

TurboS10 I think you will be fine on the width. The 7.5 is in reference to the ring gear diameter. The larger 8.5 is much stronger. You can basically just measure to see what it is.

kurley Me and my wife have a 69 camaro.I replaced the stock 8.2 rear end with a 8.5 out of a 74 nova with 373 posi. It fit fine. The first thing you need to check is the width from backing plate to backing plate. You might have to change the spring perches. What size rear end do you have if it's smaller than a 8.2 i wouldn't mess with it, if you have a motor with horse power.A 8.5 will withstand about 500 horsepower.

mmetalman Just measure the mounting pads on both diffs to be sure the are spaced right, if not, move them (cut&weld) to the correct place. Cars never have floating axles, I've only ever seen them on large trucks, min 3/4ton.
