|rusty428cj||I use the Sata RP with a 1.4 tip and use it to spray SPI HS3000 clear. Works great. Barry said to use a 1.4 to spray HS clear so thats way I bought it. I have never tried any other SPI clear. Very happy with HS clear.|

Well to me the first thing I noticed was that it seemed to break up the clear much better, and had a better/more even pattern, and it seemed that when i used the Iwata I could get away with using less air pressure, and still ended up with a smoother finish,, and by using less air pressure, you should have less dirt "in theory".. I also liked the the way it felt as compared to the sata. You might be able to call it dumb luck but my paint jobs have been looking much better since the switch, better layout and less dirt.. but I have recently switched to SPI, so maybe it's just a good combo,, but I have tried the Iwata with the global clear and still prefered the Iwata.
Another thing that really appealed to me is that if i needed to buy parts for the Iwata, I don't have to purchase a whole tip set like I do with the sata.. the last sata tip set i bought was almost $150.00 and if I want to change my 1.4 to a 1.3 it doesn't cost nearly as much because you don't have to buy everything to switch...
and another thing was the grade stainless they use on the needle is a higher grade stainless steel.. although I never wore a tip out on my sata so not sure if that really matters.. My digital guage on my sata just went also,, never looked at it anyways.
I'm not trying to say I don't like Sata, just saying what I like about the Iwata that made me change.. I actually have 4 sata's now, and use them for different things, and always said I would never use anything else,, untill I demo'd the Iwata.. now i use my Nr 95 for single stage, my NR2000 for base, a jet 90 that I dont' touch any more,, and my Rp that I use to use for clear, but havn't used it since the iwata,, not sure what i'm going to use it for yet..
hope i didn't confuse you with my nonsense..lol...

|5dogsisenuff||chad, which gun do you like better the iwata or sata, tell me why, Im ready to blow 400 bucks LOL|

|chadsbodyshop49119||Yeah I have a sata Rp also.. not a bad gun.. has a 1.3 tip in it.. not sure what i'm going to do with it now that I have the Iwata.. maybe a backup gun.. but I have used the Rp with High solids and had really good luck,, just havn't used it with the hyper resin's barry speaks of.. So i guess it just depends on what clear you are planning on using..|

|5dogsisenuff||Well the reason why I asked this questions was Im gonna break down and buy the sata rp just for clear, but I dont know what tip size to get for it, I hear this gun shoots out fast, is that true? Im just a hobbiest, today I bought the astro 4014 , I think thats the number, the lvlp gun, so I m gonna use it for base only.|

|chadsbodyshop49119||I have a Iwata and use the universal with a 1.4.. seems to work great... if you have a iwata with a 1.3, i know to change the tip size on those is cheaper than on many other high end guns as you don't have to change many parts.. with a sata you have to get a whole tip set...|

I used the purple gun more as a test, since I had just gotten it, more out of curiosity than anything else. I did have a borrowed SATA sitting there just in case. I don't know if it was the gun, or the clear that pulled that one off. It may just have been that I made sure that I had enough materials to re-do it if needed. LOL

Thanks Barry. That gun never ceases to amaze me at it's transfer.Even with the 1.3.
adtkart, I have the purple gun which was my clear gun before the Iwata. I used the 1.4 and it did great.I got the 1.3 set for it and shot clear thru it once and put the 1.4 back in. Just didn't get the coverage and flow that the 1.4 did.

Bee4Me... I recently shot that Universal clear on my daughter's car with a HF purple gun that shows as a 1.4 and got remarkable results. Being a cheap gun, I don't know how their tip sizes run.

Yes and do know of a few people using the 1.3 400. Seems not to be a problem as the gun guns 1.3 seems close to a 1.4.
Like the Geo 1.5 is more like most 1.4's..

Your Universal is a high solids isn't it?
Have you talked with anyone using it in an Iwata LPH-400 with a 1.3 tip?
I have this set up and I'm planning on using it on an upcoming job,so I'd like to know before I get into trouble.

To add to what Jim said.
Older type resin HS clears will spray good out of a 1.2 or a 1.3 but your better clears with the newer hyper type resins do not.
Most true in high humidity conditions.

|mrcleanr6||high solids means that percentage of resin compared to solvent content is higher. basically its thicker and more stays on the surface without evaporating away. usually you need atleast a 1.4 tip to spray it depending on how high the solids are.|

high solid clear
What exactly is it, Whats the difference , can I use a 1.3 to shoot it
