|56 Project||If I remember correctly most of the Ford H pipes crossed near the rear of the transmission. Those were on the original duals through the manifolds with no headers.|

|juiced66malibu||My Chevelle has a Gear Vendor unit mated to my Turbo 350, so the area for a X or H pipe is very limited. How far back can I go before it is too far? I also have turn downs at my rear axle. My 3" exhaust is all the way back to my turndowns. I guess a good pipe person can fabricate an x or h pipe.|

Just put the crossover where it fits the best. That old locating method was thoroughly tested a couple years ago by one magazine and found to be irrelavent, since every rpm and throttle setting moves the melting/burning point around.

H or X or balance tubes
Yes, they are worth it, good for bottom and midrange power, and wont hurt top end at all.

Is an crossover pipe on dual exhaust really worth it?
Just had duals put on my 66 Galaxie 352 4brl. No crossover pipe was put in. How important is a crossover pipe? Does it improve performance?
WHat is the best method to determine where the pipe should go? I have heard of guys painting a white stripe from the headers back on the underside of the pipe. Drive it until it burns off then look to see where the paint stopped burning. This is the spot to put the H pipe. Anyone ever tried this or is it an old wives tale?
