56Maynard Aside from the cam being wrong, there is a "tolerance stack up" that should be considered. Quality Control has specs it lives within or, plus or minus so much. Your crank snout keyway is plus or minus, your lower sprocket key way is plus or minus, the sprockets themselves are plus or minus and the cam is plus or minus.

It doesnt take long to see that you'd have to be one lucky S.O.B. to have the cam timing come out perfect without checking and adjusting.

Rick WI It's always nice to know that the cam is ground correctly and to verify the cam is installed exactly like the cam card specs. Since most all our cams are custom ground we degree in each one. With a stock type application lining up the dots will be more than adequate 99.99%. As it sounds like Savman must have found out there is that chance a cam is ground incorrectly.

I believe that it is very important, plus its a good practice to get into. I got burnt by not doing it. Just fallow the directions in the kit. I used the kit from Comp Cams.

How imoportant is it to degree in a cam. On a stock type sbc 350 with a mild cam, how important is this procedure?
