I'm looking for a new cutting/welding torch kit. I found one on ebay for a pretty good price. But the price kind of seems to low to be true. Just wondering what everyone thinks. I will be mainly using it for cutting and heating up rusty bolts. I have a project going on right now that I need a torch for busting lose rusty 3/4" bolts and nuts. I tried a 3/4" breaker bar, but I don't have enough strength to break them lose. As for cutting, I don't plan on cutting anything thicker than 1 inch. Also curious as what you guys are paying for renting or you bought your O/A tanks. I know prices will very by location, just trying to get an idea. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Cliff

VICTOR SUPER RANGE II CUTTING & WELDING TORCH

You will not find a better torch set-up, PERIOD  That does look like a good price but I have seen them on special for about that. I see you are located in Kentucky, is there a Scott-Gross welding supply nearby? Check with a local welding supply and if you can convince them that you can really get that outfit for that price they very well may be willing to cut you a deal since you will need gas and tanks you will be a repeat customer for them.

Good choice, I guarantee you will be happy with it.

I have a Air-Gas welding supply store that I deal with. I did rent a welding tank from them for a few years. But I got tired of renting and decided to buy the tank from them. After I emptied the tank, I would return it and they would give me a filled bottle and only charge for the gas. But I cant get it filled any other place but them. Once I buy a torch, I'll probably just buy the O/A tanks from them as well. In the long run, its cheaper to buy the tanks. Air-Gas is a pretty big outfit around here, so I don't think they will meet or even beat the ebay price on the torch kit, even if I buy the O/A tanks from them and tell them about my welding tank that I bought from them.

Thanks

O/A Gas Tanks

Clan:

I've owned a set of tanks for the last 17 years and have not had a problem exchanging them whenever they were empty--as long as the hydrostatic test was still valid. I am in the military and stay very mobile; rarely staying in one place longer than 2-3 years. I have not had problem turning in my tanks and getting new ones when I move. I would buy them outright.

I lease my tanks from our local welding supply house. Cost 150 per tank for a five year lease. Turn them in for gas costs only and at the end of the five years I can renew at no cost or If i wish, i can not renew and get my 150 back. If I need to drop the lease before the end, it is prorated out at 1/5th per remaining year. No tank rental, no need to worry about getting the tanks TIPped. no waits for refills or having to have two sets of tanks.

that's the same torch set up from the same ebay seller I have. never had any problems on the transaction. works great and you will be hard pressed to beat that price. only way you could do better, would be to buy a set of smith torches, they are warranted for life. i didn't get smith because none of the parts/machine shops around here carry smith. i'm in victor country.

Thanks everyone for your responce. After I posted this thread and oldred replied, I went ahead and purchased the torch. The next morning, I headed out to get the tanks. I decided to buy the tanks. I couldn't pass up the buy price over the lease/rental. Each tank was $200. But, I had to pay to have them filled. Needless to say, I'll never have to buy tanks again. Just turn them in and get freshly fill tanks. As for the torch, it only took two days for it to get to me. Got to use the torch that weekend. Needless to say, this torch has paid for itself many times over. I got a landscaping job going on right now. So, I took some bids for the job cause I didn't have the tools to get the job done in a timely manor. My lowest bid to re-work almost two acres was $5500. So, I decided to buy one tool and make the other one myself. My new torch and my welder really did came in handy. Don't know if any of you gents have tractors and have looked into implements for a tractor to do landscaping. All I can say is, the prices are way out of my league. The landscaping implement that I built was going to cost me $1750 plus $400 to $500 to have it shipped to me. I ended up building one for $600. This $600 implement saved me $5500 in landscaping work. So, thats $5500 I get to put toward my tractor (paying it off). I got allot of "why do you need a torch, you will only use it once in a blue moon?". Was told to let a shop do the cutting for me. I told them for what they would charge for torch work, I can buy one. Plus, it will always be there if and when I need it. Anyways, thought I'd share my experience with you guys.

I forgot to mention, my new torch allowed me to buy the first tool, which was a two bottom plow, for a cheap price and it needed some work. The torch allowed me to fix it so I could use it. So, I saved money there as well. If people only knew what a torch can do for them and how much money a torch can save them. I think everyone should own one. I think the next person that tells me I waisted my money buying a torch, I'm just going to cut there vehicle in half and say, do you need me to weld it back together for you or do you need a shop weld it back together for you. :mwink:

Its late, I'll try to get a picture of the implement that I built. Its used for leveling dirt and smoothing it out. Its not painted yet as to why I haven't taken a picture yet. But, I'll try to get a picture tomorrow (in the morning hopefully).

Thanks,
Cliff

[/Quote] Dear Cliff,

I knowed that there is an innovative cutting torch system from ************************. It is said that it can save fuel cost more than 85%. so if you do a lot of cutting job, it can save you a lot of money. And absolutely no backflash risk. Its cutting thickness is 3-300mm. The full system contains everything yo need to cut except oxygen cylinder. YOu don't need to buy or rent acetylene cylinder.
