Siggy_Freud Edge, I am glad there are guys like you who actually check out the things guys like me say to make sure they are accurate lol.

Like you said though, if he had a newer pump as well, he should have gone with that.

The in-tank fuel pump for an 88' TransAm with a 5.7L or 5.0L TPI engine and an 88' Camaro with a 2.8L FI engine list the same part for the Carter brand pump at Advance Auto Parts.com, P74006.

If it will operate a 350 TPI engine, it will operate a stock 350LT1 engine fine, IMO. But having said that, he should have still installed the new pump.

More like 38PSI for a TPI (Tuned Port). 14psi is for a TBI (Throttle Body) injection which is what you may be thinking of.

Its very possible that the pump for the 2.8 multiport provides enough flow and pressure for the injection.

I am running my TPI with an external pump that can be used with both a mid 90's ford 4cly injection and for the 5.0 litre injection.

boneyard Buick ya the car runs with the 2.8L multiport on the 350TPI... dont know what it does past 5 grand but apparently it was ok.

97Z28 ok... if he had a brand new GTA pump... what was the reasoning behind putting in the v6 pump??? thats what im not understanding. lol

lowROLLERchevy chances are that the 2 pumps are capable of the same pressure, but the v6 pump has much less flow capability

so the v6 pump will prolly run fine at idle and in the lower rpms, but anytimes hes gotta rev it up farther, it will just starve for fuel

i doubt the car will make it past 3k or 3500 rpms before it starts to sputter

Kevin Varnes Assuming that both are multi point they probably run at equal pressures. I believe GM TBI's need about 15psi and the multi point systems need about 30psi. The issue is in how much fuel that pump can supply. It might be borderline marginal for a stock engine that is not pushed hard, but my guess is it cannot keep up with the LT1.

Hey guys
my buddy just bought a 1988 pontiac Trans am GTA.. got it for steal of a deal.. needed a fuel pump and he only paid 1100$ and its mint. Just the clear coat on the hood is peeling. Anyways heres the problem.
The buddy who bought the car, his friend installed an in tank fuel pump from a 2.8 liter camaro and the motor in the GTA is a 350LT1.... i know for a fact that a 305 TPI needs 14psi minimum to run properly...

I know a 2.8 liter with Multi-port HAS to have lower PSI than a 305 fuel injection fuel pump... and the funny thing is, he had a brand new fuel pump for the 88GTA sitting right beside the car when he installed the USED 2.8 liter pump... someone reply to this and tell me how stupid this is, im still scratching my head, they thought it was a good idea...
