woody You probably won't get EXACTLY the perfect shock for less than $100, but what I'd suggest is taking the measurements of the stocker and finding a similar one for a HEAVIER vehicle. Most of the auto parts stores have buyer's guide info that breaks shocks down into types (upper stud, lower grommett,etc), then give extended and compressed lengths, dia, etc.
I,ve found lots of shocks this way when repl.were not available. Also had a HOT Opel Rallye (don't laugh, it was), that I ended up using Corvette shocks on for racing and drags. A friendly parts man can be your best help. Good luck

Randy1953 Try going to your local stockcar people, they might have some used coilover shocks.

A SHOCKING question

65 tempest street/strip application running a built 60 over 455 thru a TCI t-400 to a 12 bolt posi w/373 gears
I need the voice of experience on which rear shocks to go with. I cannot spend $100 per shock and remember that Ponchos are low rpm HIGH torque monsters. I need all the help i can afford to help plant all the HP and Torque I have spent my wife's college money on....ALL intelligent help greatly appreciated
