I got 2 kits from Northern Auto Parts. No problems with my TH350s so far.

Get a rebuild video. Ron Sessions has a good book on th350 rebuild as well. Don't forget to get a shift kit for your tranny.

|gentrys51||I just get stock rebuild kit and a shift kit u dont need a shift kit though unless u want it to shift harder about the trans cooler the stock cooler will work good enough i had a 425 horse sbc and this never let me down unless u go to the strip and run time after time then u might think about a cooler|

You may have already answered this, But I want to be clear so I don't toast my trans. Would just a "stock" rebuild work for sub400HP- or would I need a High Performance rebuild kit(the good alto clutches or w/e)? Im on a tighter budget than I thought....and the difference between the two kits are 80$. That 80 bucks could save me in other needed part areas...
BTW I now decided I will be using only a 1800-2200 stall converter and most likely a barley 350 HP 350 now...
Also do I absolutely have to get a external trans cooler for just a 2000 or less stall rating? I could save 50 bucks on that too..

I'm not an expert, but I've torn apart a few junked transmissions before, and unless a particular trans has a tendency to wear out bushings and washers, they should show virtually no wear and it wont be necessary to replace them.
However, if you are concerned about the wear before tearing it apart, go ahead and have them on hand in case you need them.

i recommend replacing them because its a wear item. if you didnt have the transmission when it had zero miles on it, you have no idea of its history. maybe the original owner neglected it and ran the trans dry or low a time or two. or maybe they towed 4 times the rated capacity of the vehicle, or even raced the crap out of it while manually shifting at high RPMs.
regardless of how rare they need changing, youve already got the case open and replacing everything else, why not the washers and bearings ? to me, its an insurance thing, i suppose.

thrust washers are replaced as needed in most rebuilds.
Since you are not a tranny rebuilder it is hard to describe the wear patterns to look for when a washer should be replaced.
Just buy them new , and move forward is my suggestion

a basic rebuild kit will suffice for a sub400hp engine. youll also want to purchase thrust washers and thrust bearings, which can be found on EBay. i believe i bought mine from oregonperformancetransmission (or something like that). you can buy the rebuild kit locally for a little more $$ but at least youll have it in your possession right then, rather than waiting on shipping.
without any previous knowledge or experience, i tore down and rebuilt my 350 and installed a NoYoYo trans kit. the trans works perfectly and shifts great.
consider replacing some other parts, like the accumulator spring and case vent. check out www.bulkpart.com

Please help me find T-350 rebuild kit, what do I need?
Im going to start in my rebuild of my th350. It is a 1975 unit out of a malibu, with about 100000 on it. I haven't torn it apart yet, but their is minimal sludge in it. What is a good kit to rebuild my trans? Im looking at hughes or B&M Transkit, maybe TCI, but most of those I dont think come with bushings and are expensive...Do I need Bushings and Steels? The Trans will go behind a SBC producing no more than 400ft.lbs. With that, would I need to do any internal Mods like 36 element sprag or hardened race? Also I would really like to do the rebuild for no more than $200 including a shift kit, speaking of shift kits, what are good ones? I want to make it a Manual/Auto trans. It will be raced occasionally on weekend and be used with a 2500 stall(external cooler will be used).
Would these be good kits? which one?:
Im thinking the last one...steels, bushings, red eagle clutches for $160 and get shift kit for $50 or so.
What do ya think?
