Welcome to the site. If your friend's friend does this quite a bit then he may know were to put your mounts. Go visit the welder and find out what he needs to know before he starts on your frame. He will at least want to know what type of front end you will be using (suicide, spring over axle, etc.), what engine, transmission and rear end and what body will you be using. He could build you a generic frame with a specific wheelbase and you will later decide how and where to place your body. Not such a good idea. Go to a few rod runs and car shows and take pics of the rods you like. Go to your local library and read a couple of How to build a hot rod books. Check out some magazines and purchase a few that cater to the type of car you want to build. Decide on your suspension, drivetrain and body before anything is done. It will make it easier for you to build your rod in the long run. Good luck.

Henry Highrise What Sam said.........Do some reading and go to some car shows and do some looking. Get a idea in your head of exactly what you want before you start. As far as the frame and where the mounts go etc. that depends on what body you are going to be using as well as what engine etc.

I just got into the hot rod thing and Im goin to build a hod rod/ rat rod. I cant weld and I was going to have some one that my friend knows to do my chassis and my friend was saying he had a something that tells you where you need to put the mounts for your motor and rear end and what not. But I was thinking that everyone is going to be different right? So that means i need all of my stuff put together and bring everything with so the guy can put the mounts in the right place? Or What do I do? Do I have some one build me one or would it be easier for me to buy one and have it Z'd and channeld? Any sugestions will help and thanks alot.
