Kobalt Compressor.

I had a Sears compressor for about 10 years and it was failing. My wife surprised me and purchased a Kobalt 60 gallon compressor as a gift. I wired it up and within 1/2 hour of use, the oil level sight glass started leaking oil. the on/off switch is cheap plastic junk and I don't see it making more than a month. Just trying to register the warranty was a hassle and the customer service phone number just goes to a revolving phone tree and you never actually get a real person. Also no customer service after hours or weekends on the customer service phone number, this from a major tool company, really? Kobalt spouts advertisements of having no hassle warranty. No hassle for them, because they will never talk to you! Save your money and avoid Kobalt tools like a nasty cold sore.

It is so hard to find parts for Lowe's Kobalt Air Compressors. I found parts on-line at:

It seems that several different companies make compressors for Lowe's.

SuthnCustoms just a thought(this is why my wife NEVER goes to stores with me on returns)..anytime you have a product that failed or is already messed up when you buy it..those people in the store are trained to try & NOT give a refund or new one to you..but...
start raising hell & wanting to see the manager & make a pretty loud scene in the store..you'll get what you came for GARAUNTEED..they dont want customers standing around THINKING bout buying something & seeing someone getting the run around about a defective product being returned & denied the refund or replacement..and if the manager says"lets go into my office and talk about it?..just say outloud..there is NOTHING private about me wasting this much money on a product that is USELESS to me for all the hard earned money i spent on it!!..usualy in a few minutes after that they will ALWAYS say"ok..we will make this one acception against our policy "..BULL---!..the only company policy they have is to make money whether your getting screwed or not?...
im just me..im the type of person always helping out freinds & folks in need but try to screw me out of my hard earned money?...world war III in process...

SuthnCustoms sorry to hear about the problem..ive been through MANY of those kind of deals..really sucks when they dont really stand behind their warranties & garauntees
for an instance..i bought a delta 12 inch wood planer..used it once..put it away..pulled it back otu about 3 months later to build a table for under the xmas tree for a train set..it wouldnt adjust up & down
i checked it ut..the 4 steel rail/poles the planer adjusts up & down on had rusted solid..because the grease they usualy put on them was never on it..
i had it stored in a dry case inside of a gang box so moisture wasnt really the issue..just normal humidity done it..called delta for the warranty..never got an answer..so know what i did?..went to lowes..bought another one just like it..pulled it out of the box..put the old one in it..took it back..got my money back..screw em!..they tryed screwin me but i got em first!
if i was you..i think all the trouble & waiting to have it fixed you may have been better off going ahead & taking it back & they would of gave you another with no questions asked..lowes is good about that part anyhow..its the manufacturers warranties that always has the problems owning up & solving the problems..i think they just think if they give you enough run around you'll just forget about it & get another & saves them the money

5dogsisenuff Well its actually Kolbalt,, I hate to say it. Lowes is a middleman, HOWEVER there service sucks bigtime, I wouldnt buy anything big off them again, You wouldnt even begin to believe the hoops I had to go through to finally get this compressor running, after nowhere with lowes, I called abc manufacturing, they gave me a number to call, it went back to lowes, then lowes gave another number to contact customer support for abc manufacturing , I contacted them, they said all they have to thats involve is the moter not the pump I was like what the hell????, I was prettymuch boiling at this point, you know it is funny not one person would give me the number to kolbalt, so I went down to lowes and spoke with the manager, he finally agreed to give my the number to kolbalt, There based out of tennesee by the way, anyway, Of course I got some rep that dint know what was goin on, all I got was 2 minute silence on the phone, after talking to 3 supervisors, within a 4 day period, I got some executive on the phone, she was a pretty nice lady, I basically told her if she dint do anything I prettymuch had to get a attorney involved, and I finally got her to admit the the bigger kolbalt compressors are pieces of crap, anyway she hooked me up with a company, they came at 6 different times to fix this compressor, it kept on blowing that seal, I would think that after a 2 or three times that someone would realize that gee HOUSTON WE MAY HAVE A PROBLEM...
Kolbalt just kept on sending the parts out, I got to know Todd pretty good by now, matter fact were goin fishing,,, anyway after the 6th time he said Im just gonna take the pump back to the shop and mic it out, BINGO!!!!! that was the problem. the specs were off on the pump head to therefore it would never keep a seal on it, so Kolbalt ended up sending there brand new pump and motor, basically another air compressor, now all is good in Farmcountry

Ray Jenkins Bought a 60 gallon 5HP 220V com model 3700066SNO056. The Lowes I usually go to did not have it in stock but said another not far had 2. Both were dusty and bolted to a wood pallet so I took the closest. The electrician was coming in the morning so I thought this will be my first and last chance to move it and get it clean so I took the two wire mesh cages off and cleaned. The belt didn?t look aligned right so I was going to loosen the pulley on the motor and fix it. The Pulley just slid of the motor shaft, there was no key in the slot and only one set screw. The motor pulley hole was egg shaped and the motor shaft had a deep score in it. 8:0o pm with the hard to get electrician coming at 8:00 AM. Back in the truck back to the distant Lowes. Try explaining that the merchandise you want to return is not at the counter and you want someone to use a fork lift to get it off. Not the sharpest tool in the shed but 1 hr and 20 minutes later I have a new on the truck after a quick inspection. Get it home check rotation, alignment, has a key in the slot great. Electrician comes, wires compressor I go to work. Connect some hoses need > 10 CFM at 90 psi for sand blaster. Turn on and run to 20 psi and let it sit 30 minutes, no leaks, take it to 60 psi stop and check for leaks, same at 90. Turn it back on and wait for auto shutoff to happen. Gets to about 96 psi and goes no higher sits for about 5 minutes then makes a funny noise and something comes off compressor. Stop machine and find key slid out and hit metal grill. Neither set screw was tightened down which explains what happen to first one I had. Emailed Lowes waiting for an answer, no manuals, no instructions, no warrantee card. I thought I was buying new equipment! Let you know what Lowes says. Another weekend shoot, no parts cleaned nothing but headaches and aggravation. Is it Lowes or Kobalt?

Excellent advice. I forgot about credit card companies handling problems like this. I did use that tactic once with a problem I had with an online order I placed with a toolsite. The reps from the site kept giving me the runaround. Discover Card took back the money I had paid, and wa-la, I get a call from them. Finally got resolved.

x711 Some credit cards come with purchase protection for 12 months, Basically
any hi ticket item I put on my card. If it fails during the "Protection Period"
and the company fails to honor the warranty or gives me the run around
I let the credit card company handle it.

Typically you will find most retailers accommodating when a possible charge back is looming.

Think you got the original poster confused with someone who had replied to the post. 5dogs is still having problems with his compressor. Scrot was trying to get a drivebelt from Grainger, but looks like decided to buy a second compressor.
I had thought of buying a Kobalt but ended up buying a Home Depot Husky, which I believe is the same thing as a Kobalt, but I went with the pricey two stage. I got an OK deal on it. price was $869, got 10% off that by getting a Home Depot credit card, plus will be receiving a $125 Home Depot gift card as a rebate on the unit.
It just better last. Too bad 5dogs doesn't live closer. I'd help get that compressor running for him. Maybe there's someone else on here that can lend a hand to a fellow do-it-yourselfer?

Danny G. Hi scrot, sorry to hear about your troubles. I had a problem when getting a water heater at Lowes, it was somehow a bad one, there contractors they hire seem too small or too many easy-hire and lacks allot on good service and communication, tons of effort to get anything done. So no more big items for me anymore either over there.

I have that compressor your talking about, and so far so good. Can't help but think you should keep both of them, and when you get the Kobalt fixed, have 2 60 gallons at 20+CFM for a darn good price if you think about it, plus one for backup or if the others been run constantly up to 3 hrs, you can just double the power or switch to the cooler one Just a thought.

Thanks everyone who recommended a place to find my compressor belt. I bought a Harbor Freight 3hp 60 gal compressor, so I can look for the belt later.

5dogsisenuff Fish thanks for your efforts, Ive talked to like 3 different supervisors, and I never got anywhere, last time I spoke with them they were still looking for someone to come out to service it, that was last monday, Lowes can pretty much drop off the face of the earth is all I care, I was gonna by new kitchen cabinets through them, it was like 5 grand, now, no way !!!

Good luck to you. At the very least I would go back to the store where you purchased the compressor, with a print out of this post to show your efforts, and demand a refund of the money spent on the worthless warranty.
