projectjohn cucumber I have removed the cable from the trans and tried moving it manually, but no success. With the cable off I had it go into drive once, but then it went right back to the way it was. So I pretty sure that it is internal.

Does some one have a good diagram for a th 350? I would like to look at one before i jump into the unknown.

On another note about what might have caused this problem when i was broke in the parking lot I started it up and had a friend look to see if my drive shaft was spinning while in gear. Then me the dumb dumb pushed it into park causing some grinding noises before I pulled it back to a reverse or drive position and shutting down. Could the grinding of the park pin be connected to the problem?? I guess a good diagram and I should be able to tell.

cucumber1949 Disconnect the transmission end of the B&M shifter cable from the lever on the transmission. Can you move the shifter lever by hand thru the gears and detents? If so, the shifter is bad, If not, drop the pan on the trans and make sure the linkage from the trans lever is connected internally.

projectjohn I did tow it home in neutral, but the trans was not spinning because the spiders were blew out of it. I checked that before I left. So that should not be the cause of the problem. And the tow was not anymore than 15 blocks.

The tow was with a rope. And a Caprice.

In that case the shifter would shift past reverse, but the trans wouldn't work. This seems like the shifting linkage internally is binding and not letting me shift past that one spot.

Did you tow your car with the rear tires turning the transmission in neutral? Never tow a automatic transmission unless the drive shaft is disconnected. I am not sure from your post how you towed it.....

Ok guys I was out in my chevelle having a good time playing around and trying to put the power to the ground. I blew up my rear end ok not a problem that I was not expecting. So pull it into Canadian tire parking lot get a tow home. Nothing hurting but some pride and my diff.

As pulling the chevelle into the garage at home I tell a friend of mine to pull it out of park before proceeding to pull it in with my come along. Up to this point everything worked fine. He tells me that he cant get it to go past reverse. Ok so he just doesn't know how to work my shifter, he should it's only a B and M quicksilver pretty basic. What every I blamed it on stupidity ( we all have brain farts once in a while). So tonight I go out and was sitting behind the wheel and was going to play a little while I'm waiting on parts( go through the gears once or twice) I can't shift past reverse. "what the he11" so take it all apart make sure shifter is working right. YUP. Make sure the cable is free and I didn't bend anything external. EVERYTHING IS GOOD. So I have come to the conclusion that it is internal within the trans. Any ideas because I'm transmission impaired. Last time I had one apart was to change the pump gear and that was not the best experience. That bent clutch and pump gear still hangs on the wall as a reminder not to do that again.

If you have a idea what could be causing me not to shift past reverse. would I be able to do the fix my self or is that a no?? I should be able to do it if it is basic, but beyond that I need a good reference material.
