willys36@aol.com Is the axle on top or bottom of the spring? I'm having a mental block. Anyway, I would rather lower at the axle if it were me; put the axle on top of the spring or if it is already there, put some spacer blocks in with longer shackle U-bolts.

SJFast You can probably lengthen the shackles to drop the rear. The problem with doing that is sway. The longer the shackles are the more rearend sway will result. Think about adding a horizontal panhard bar from the rearend to the frame. Also, depending on how low you want to go, you may have to "C" the frame over the axle to maintain adequate clearance. Shock mounts will have to be considered.

lowering the rear .

Can i change the rear ride height on my 1957 Chevy pick up by installing longer shackle plates? I have rebuilt the springs and it looks like to me i could just lengthen the shackles and drop the rear down . What do you think?
Please advise!!
