The front amber parking lights on my 66 Chevelle generally work fine. My question is should they turn off when the headlights are turned on? The wiring all looks good. Its hard to tell how it should work based on the elctrical diagrams. I'm wondering if its normall or if I should replace the dash board light control switch.

Also, My dome light works good when I use the dashboard light control switch but wont turn on when I open the doors. The starnge thing is the car has door switches but the electrical diagrams seems to indicate that they are for operating the curtousy lamps and it says that those were only provided on 67 models. I have not physically traced the door switch wires down to see where they go yet.

Thanks in advance.

Parking lights which stayed on with the head lights didn't come about until around 68 (IIRC). Having owned several 64 - 66 GM products, I know for a fact that if your 66 has the original head light switch, the park lights will go out when you turn the head lights on.

Wiggle the door switch. Make sure the wire is attached to the back. Make sure there is no corrosion around the switch. (I am a little fuzzy on this one. IIRC, they are grounding switches.)

Doc here, :pimp:

Check the ground (Post switch wires) Between the switch/Lamp and the Door posts, this is usually where the problem lies when BOTH or ALL Dome switches don't function..

The switches , You will Note, are a single wire Switch..They pick up body ground from the switch body, and through the center conductor, implies ground on the Dome light system, The lamp is wired "Hot at all Times" and the ground is the wire that goes to the switches to complete the circuit.
