Thats exactly why they burn up. People think they can just get rid of the ballast resister and go..Not so..You need it.........I have one in my coupe and 0 problems in 2 yrs. GlennK

|sbchevfreak||You still need the ballast wire and a stock voltage coil with the eliminator kits, as HEI coils will burn the eliminators up.|

|matt167||Crane and Mallory both have there own magnetic pickups that replace points for the SBC. I'v heard good and bad about petronix ign components, sometimes there the only way to get rid of points ( ex, most rare/ uncommon engines, and 6cyl's ) and I'v heard if there installed wrong they will work for a short time then burn up, don't know the truth as I have never installed 1 ( Ignitor ), I may install 1 on my '67 200 6 Falcon, and get rid of the points.|

There has been a lot of bad stuff on this site about pertronics going bad.
If your distributor is NOT worn and you don't need more than 5000 rpm reliably, then a points distributor might be OK.
Points always have a lot of spark scatter and irregular timing when the plates and shaft move around. Variations of 3* are common on new distributors.
Go full electronic if possible, I like MSD.

I agree with sbchevfreak go with the Pertronix kit I have installed 2 in the last 3 weeks and they have worked out great. Just my .02

|sbchevfreak||The general consensus is that Accel products are kinda crappy. If it were mine, Id use a Pertronix kit, as they make a good product. They are very easy to install, just follow the directions.|

accel points eliminator?
I am running points on my camaro. I ran across a points eliminator by accel the other day. How does it work and is it hard to install? Do I do away with my cap and rotor or does that stay the same?
