i will be getting a 68dodge charger hopefully . it now has a running 318 motor , drives and every thing. but a big dent in the front end hopefully the frame s not bent. any ways my dad does have 3 or 4 mopar 440 motors with the trans. but i was just wondering about how much power you could get out of one still pump gas. or i could build a 454 for it lot more parts to choose from. if i go with the 440, not many performance stuff for them that i can find. if you know any web sites i would appreciate it, thanks

Chevy in a Dodge

Less trouble, parts available, sounds like a Dodge needs a MOPAR! I am
a silly Ford guy and saw 2 Mopar powered Cobra clones at a show last week.
This was a first for me. One had a 426 hemi and the other had a v10 viper.
To each his own but a Chevy belongs in a Chevy or the name needs to be
changed to a "universal" . HA! Tim

Dodge with a chevy

I would think from a strictly resale point of view you'd be better off with the 440. From a power point of view I don't remember them having any shortage (from driving a 69 superbee 440 and a 67 GTX 440.)

Tim I thought SBC="universal" I think I've seen them in everything with wheels including a motor cycle (I would not want to have to hold it up at a light though getting lazy in my old age).

BarryH BTW I'm a Chevy Guy but I still like a good Mopar.

In my opinion Mopar V8 engines are by far the best compared to the Ford and Chevy V8 engines, why put an inferior engine in a vehicle made to take a superior engine?

Oh, Shaggy, those 454 powered snowblowers are almost worth there 30k price tag, the coolant is run through the grips for hand warmers :D

I don't know what you've been smoking but a properly tuned 440 can out perform a 426 hemi in street trim. And everyone knows that just about any 426 hemi ever built can out perform the best 454 ever built. Otherwise all the top fuel and funny car teams would be running Chevy motors rather than hemis.

Go ahead and ruin the value of the Charger (by using a Chevy engine) if you want, after all it's your car. But don't expect any self respecting Mopar guy to even talk to you after that. Putting a Chevy in a Ford can be considered an improvement but putting a Chevy in a Mopar would make even the toughest billy goat puke. :D
