Have done the vette IRS on a few diff cars and trucks the 84 is the best as you dont have to put silly 18-20 inches wheels yo clear the brakes on like the newer vette stuff needs. Also have used the cheap supercoupe t-bird IRS in some rods(89-96 super charged car not turbo coupe). The vette stuff is cheap and not all that hard to do if you have a little fab skills. Rears around here are about 450-500 bucks. Good luck and give Bob a call.|

I have a regular 69 Corvette and a Model A with a Corvette rear end. I have been running that for years with no problems. You are right about the parts you mentioned that you have to narrow. In addition, you have to weld in a special bracket for the coilovers, and a special brace and crossbar for the front of the differential.
I am not sure if all vettes have the same bolt pattern on the housing but I doubt it. If you go to ecklers.com they show rebuild kits for Corvette differentials that might give you the answer. It seems 63-79 are the same, then a change is made and 80-82 is the same, then they show another change from 84 to 96.
Some web sites that might give you a more exact answer. tci.com They specialize in frames and offer the option of the corvette rear end on a Model A frame. ncrs.org and corvetteactioncenter.com are both web sites that specialize in Corvettes only and you could post a message on there. Hope that gives you some information to investigate with.

|adtkart||Since the control arms on the 84 Vette rear are mounted forward of the wheel and run back to it, narrowing should not be that great of a problem. It will consist of shortning the half shafts, tie rods, and the spindle rod. I plan to use coil over shocks to eliminate the leaf spring. What I really need to know is, if the cover bolt patern for the rear cover is the same on all Vette housings. Does anyone know?|

The wheels wil be W A Y out from under the fenders. If no fenders are to be used, the space between the body and the tires will appear odd and unattractive. I know a guy who paid a frame shop to build him a Model A chassis with the 84 up rear IRS and they told him it was too wide. He said go ahead. They said OK and went ahead...got the money. He now has a 5 grand (plus parts)roller that he hates. He has to cut the floor out to clear the Zed rear crossmember. This was done to get the Model A to sit at a normal ride height. I know he would sell it for 5 grand. He is in Indy. A Model T is even more narrow than a Model A

|adtkart||I know that this IRS is wider than what I wanted. I am not really that concerned about the width. What I am concerned with is mounting the unit. Does anyone know if I can just change the rear cover where the mount is, on this year? I know they sell rear covers at Speedway with the mount where it mounts to the crossmember. Has anyone had experience with these?|

I believe the problem is that the IRS is too wide to go under a MODEL A. Most Model A builders use a rear end that is 56" measured from where the wheels bolt up (flange to flange). Narrowing the Vette IRS with all the pivot points would be a nightmare trying to get the geometry correct.

I just purchased a complete IRs from a 84 Corvette. My plan is to install it in a 1926 Model T Touring rod I am building. I have checked several sources that sell frames and found that they list them with cross members for earlier IRS, but not this one. This one does have the long mount bar for the differential. Does anyone know of a serious problem that I will have with using this system? My plan it to build a frame based on a Model A, so mounts can be made as needed.
