A 55, 56 Plymouth 2 speed automatic will bolt up to your flathead. Some have a column shifter and some had pushbuttons.

If you are on a budget and want to stay with the standard, I have one from a 49 Chrysler Royal...a 3 speed standard that I won't be using. It came out of a car with 75,000 miles that sat since 1969. It should be good, but I never drove it. You can have it for the shipping. I am in Calgary.

Ok thanks a lot guys. Looks like the linkage has some worn out bushings. Im looking for the conversion shifter on ebay as I have not found any company that carries it. I've also found a company that makes an adapter for a TH350, should be a direct bolt on. I dont know if I'll go this route but its nice to know is a plausible option. Thanks guys!

If it locks up on you while driving.Pull over and set the e-brake or block it up so it will not roll on you.Crawl under it to the trans and put both levers in the middle position(neutral).This should un bind it so you can get home.
I don,t know the about old mopar trucks ,if there is an adjustment on the arms.Do the same ,put both arms in the middle and put the shifter in neutral then adjust them until they are not binding.
This works on the old fords,also those cheap floor shifters work just fine also.That,s what I had in my 54 when I was in high school.I don,t know about an adapter.Carl
I just reread what jalopy45 wrote.He looks like he knows something about your mopar.What I put above was working on fords.I still think you adjust it in neutral if anyone disagrees please correct me.Carl

|jalopy45||There are shifters made for your tranny, and they have to be for the mopar. You only have 1 shift arm on the side and one on top so other shifters won't work. I think that Speedomotive made the one that I used, you might find on EBay, try an inquiry at Inliners International http://www.inliners.org/ to see about tranny swaps|

Which tranny will bolt up to mopar flat 6?
2 questions here. My tranny and linkage are giving me a hard time lately. I think it might be just my linkage, but Im having trouble getting into gears and sometimes it gets stuck. So here are my 2 quesions
1) Where could I get a floor shirt conversion from the 3-on-tree that I have now? If Im replacing the linkage I might as well place the shifter where I'd rather have it. Do I need to get a mopar floor shift conversion or will the GM ones do?
2) What automatic tranny would bolt up to my flat 6 without too many modifications? I have a TH350 that was destined for my 267 SBC but I could always offer it up for my truck. Will it bolt up? What changes (other than new tranny mount and shifter) would have to be made to switch to an automatic transmission?
Keep in mind, I'm on a tight budget.
