My Father passed away in Oct and I have been cleaning up the old place for my Mother.I sold a 49 Jeep truck on ebay. The buyer just wanted the cab.It had copper brake lines and a copper fuel line.
Was this a common thing to do back then?
I've heard of copper fuel lines before but I never heard of copper brake lines....infact I would think copper would just blow apart under those pressures hope that helps
Copper lines on a car are a no-no :spank: :nono: Copper will work harden as it vibrates and will break in use..
I have seen some shade tree stuff done with copper and no I woudl not ride in something like that as it would be my luck that the lines would break with me in it..
Oldschool,I agree.
OneMore,It is a junker. It,s just a frame.I am going to haul it off for scrap.I have already cut the lines off and took them with some copper wire to the scrap yard.I had never seen it used for brake lines before and was just wondering if it was something they did back in the day, or the guy my Father got it from was building it for an ex-wife.
I think I see a profitable ebay business here - selling copper brake line replacements to ex-husbands that are about to loose their rides in the devorce.

I've also heard stories of guys using thier mother-in-laws as "carbon monoxide testers" ... similar to how they used to use canaries in the mines.
If she stopped squawking, it was time to get out.
