Hi I'm looking to buy a camaro for my wife from 1993-1997 can anybody give me some input on the 350 LT1 or the 3.4 V6 and are these cars any good thanks for the input.

LT1 is rated at 275hp and runs very good for that little hp. Only real problem with them is the opti, plug wires buring out, power steering pump, I've got one like 1931 said a lot of aftermarket parts avliable and you can pick those cars up cheap. For the money and performance you can't go wrong.

My daily driver is a 95 Z28 with an LTI and an A4. It has 167,000 + on it and still runs great. On a recent trip to Michigan, it got 25 + mpg on the highway with the T-tops out. The engine is all stock (for now), but the trans has a 2600 stall converter which hurts around town mileage somewhat. Around town it gets around 16 mpg.
Like was said previously, there are a lot of parts both new and used for the LT1. The opti problem isn't bad now that the aftermarket has answered the call. I have gotten very good feedback from customers that have purchased the MSD unit.
Go with the LT1.

First things first are the basics...
better cats and exhaust, I'd go with 3" single splitting into 2.5" duals after the sideways placed single in/dual out muffler. Or run a single in/single out muffler (see link) and then a splitter so it looks like duals. Getting true duals on these is pretty difficult I'm told, but I have no personal experience.

Once you can get the air moving out well, it's time to get air moving in. A better intake and a good air filter (KN is popular, one of their competitors uses more layers of gauze material to improve filtration), perhaps a bigger TB.

I'd leave it at simple stuff like that until it's time for a rebuild, then add headers (I don't think they'd be easy in a cramped engine compartment like yours), a cam, and the other harder-to-get-at stuff.
