I agree with Astro: "I think you need to just let it go. It's obvious these two guys don't need anyones help or advice and they will just do what they gotta do anyway. Leave them to their own devices and they'll get tired of f'n with it..."
I say it was "assembler" error. This whole thing would increase my health if I were you, laughter is supposed to be good for the mind, body, and spirit. Have fun.

|bigbadbowtie||I agree.. after all the crap that engine has been through I would start from scratch. If it has a hairline crack anywhere you may have a hard time seeing it.|

I'd find a donor car at the local slavage yard and start with a fresh slate so to speak.. I wouldnt trust that engine as a boat anchor.

the engines still a long block assem ....
its on the stand
and the whole setup tipped over and smashed into the concrete floor
one of the cam gears is smashed to hell
ill be over there tomorrow doing a tear down to inspect for damage

Plastigauge still comes with complete gasket kits.
Even the guys on the POWER BLOCK shows advise using plastigauge during some rebuilds.
Think the Lexus owner would want to invest in some desert land? There is some prime stuff close to me.

I still think it all started with the crank.
I'd put my money on that he had the crank turned and used stock bearings. The way those bearings mushroomed out at the sides and the oil supply hole caved in. I looks 1/3 the size it should. It's amazing what a 10 cent piece of plastic can prevent!! JMO

was the bearings install backwards
i looks like lack of oil maybe someone install the bearings backwards and covered the oil gallery and didnt get any oil to the bearing
or maybe i just pulling it out of my ***

i love how ths is a big deal on the local car forum
everyone thinks that the "poor fitting downpipe" is what cause the first turbo to die, apparently a 1/8" wall 1.5 dia SStube has the STRENGTH to flex a CAST IRON turbo housing
that turbine housing is heavy as a brick !!!! its not gonna flex !!!
im sorry, im not gods gift to cars ... i dont know everything, and ALOT of people on this forum can absolutly DWARF me in outright automotive knowledge....
... but i have the common sense to know that the turbo dieing, and the rod bearings dieing ate TOTALY RELATED
-turbos NEED ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of their required oil to live a long life
-rod bearings were beaten to the point that they had a MASSIVE GAP
-oil starts P*****G out the gap
-rest of the engine doesnt get its needed oil
-weakest link dies (turbo)
is this REALY that hard of a concept to follow ?????
to compare this to the human body ..... getting stabbed in your leg can cause you to die ... simple as that

It seems like Will Rogers said it best''common sense is not as common as most people think. having said that, it dosen't matter what eng. the damage was done not by low oil pressure, dirt in the oil, but by ignorance. too many people feel that they know something no one else knows. that's when the train starts off the track. too much money has been wasted on this project. move on.

he's asked for advice so many times ... yet HE NEVER EVER TAKES it ... i swear he asks what to do just so he can ignore people
i refuse to get more then toe deep in this car anymore .... if i get in neck deep and stuff breaks because of something HEEEE did .... my reputation goes down the drain

It looks like your friend was made for that shop. Takes a car not tuned, flogs it hard, til it makes bad sounds, and keeps flogging it.
It boggles my mind how folks stupid enough to do things like that are able to make the money to get neat stuff only to destroy it
As described, that entire engine is basically toast.

Well, the photos finally came through..and saw the crankshaft and bearings for the first time...
Send my Congratulations along to "Larry and Curley"... (or Ralph and Norton..Whatever applies the best..) They've taken a perfectly GOOD set of bearings and a Steel Crankshaft ... and invented an Edison Wax Disc Phonograph...
To play 45's..they probably could use the cam at the same rotation speed..
ALL they need now is a sound horn, and a needle to pickup the grooves as it turns..and let's not forget the Dalmatian with one ear to the sound horn with the quote "His Master's Voice" below it..(you real Olde guys know what I am referring to..)
To reuse anything from that block , would require a clean up tantamount to cleaning up Three mile Island for re~population again..
Pass along the information: Oil is sold by Weight...Not Grit...
Were it I, I'd do something useful with the block..like pull it, place it by my mailbox..fill each cylinder with potting soil, and Daisys...a Functional yard Gnome..At LEAST then it won't matter and Actually augment functionality by adding MORE dirt..
