You sure have put a tunnel ram on quite a few vehicles and for daily drivers to boot
I do have a good pair of Carters off a boat( 400 's or 450's) I am not sure on what I can get for them, or if I should try to find a pair of small Holleys?

I've ran tunnel rams on the streets for years and years and years, I had a 2x4bbl tunnel ram on my daily driven work truck for a couple of years. Stock converter with an automatic to boot.
Never had any troubles, cold weather drivability was BETTER with the tunnel ram which flies against the face of wisdom I suppose. I had power brakes in almost every vehicle as well.
Daily driven 3/4 ton clubcab with 1 ton suspension....
My Demon had to pass AirCare emissions tests every year, it passed with flying colors year after year, no detuning whatsoever, I just drove it on the rollers....
My Coupe was driven tunnel rammed for 10 years before the switch to EFI....
Even had a daily driver for my wife that was a 2x4bbl tunnel ram car.... she drove it to work for years trouble free...

I ran a tunnel ram BBC on the street for years. DO NOT try to use the 660 carbs that were popular on the strip cars. They were way idle/rich and center squirters.. I ran a couple of small double pumpers BUT. With a stick trans, a very light car and a 4.56 gear.. Heavy right foot+youthful, Devil may care!!
Set the carbs up with a progressive linkage so the rear carb does most of the low rpm work. BAD mixture distribution but,,,
Also, Unless the "Superior" state has enacted laws in the past couple of years. The only Vision obstruction things are in the immediate driver area. Stuff hanging from inside mirror, blanked out side windows, no door mirrors, stuff stacked up high on the seats etc.

I see on your pics you have a Doug Nash strip tranny. I have a torsion tube model and two without the torsion tube, I have almost enough pcs to build a 4th
The carbs on your Biscayne, don't look like 450's LOL

i illinois the was and probably still is 5'' above the hood line.
they don't mess with you to much here unless you drive like an a** in a residentual area.my buddy had a blower sticking 14 1/2'' out of the hood a the cops pulled him over just to check out the car,told him ''oh by the way the blower is illegal at that height'' no tickets.

I live in Ontario Canada, about an hour north of Toronto. We have had a lot of accidents with the imports and they are racing right in the city streets
How high is your tunnel ram??? any pics?? Did you get singled out, or where you caught buzzing it a little bit
I had thought of starting with a single 4 , just to see the reaction I get from the local police. I also am building a blower motor, and I am really unsure how well that will go over
I have lowered my motor as much as possible, but in a mid year corvette, the motor just sticks out a lot more than a 32 Ford

|dbdbb||I just had a negative effect with My tunnel ram yesterday, the cop did not like My car. He gave Me a warning about a vision obstruction, a ticket for My D.O.T. slicks and a careless driving. It all depends on the cop, and the situation. I don't know what my state law says about how high something can stick out of the hood,I need to find out. You might want to check Your state law.|

Thanks for your reply. I have a Doug Nash 5 speed for the car with a 2.98 first gear. The car is a little lighter than a stock vette as well
The tunnel ram look is something I am quite fond of, as long as it is going to work for me

If they are the Holley 450`s then for sure it would be fine even on the street... Also even with the 660`s that most tunnel rams came with it should be drivable with some tuning... You did not mention what type of trans...? Auto...? If so what stall which will affect the combo also... If its a manual then its really no problem... While the tunnel ram is not the most desired setup for the street it does attract alot of attention even now... Nothing like seeing it sticking through the hood and a couple of carbs on top with velocity stacks...
Still make`em quiver at the red lights...

I have not been on the site in quite a while, so I am not sure if this subject has been discussed recently
I have an old corvette which is being built as a street /strip car. Most of the driving will be on the street
It is a back halfed chassis with a narrowed Dana w 4.11 gears and a 19.5 x 33 in MT tire. I have a Doug Nash 5 speed and a 427 out of an old drag car I had
I have a single 4 intake w/850 holley, but I also have a tunnel ram and some smaller carbs( oval port heads)
I would like to use the tunnel ram if I can and I can cut the plenum area down some on the intake
The cam is large, so it is going to sputter and I love that effect, but I was curious if anyone had any good or bad stories of running a tunnel ram on the street
I will probably not even race the car that much, maybe only 2 or 3 times a year. I can go to bigger carbs for the strip, but I don't know how it would be on the street
