Wider gaps make it a bit harder for a spark to jump with a weak spark..close them down about 5...from standard.

Plug wire resistance is measured by the foot..the shorter the run, the lower the resistance..So yes..It may help in that regard also.

It will sure help to a degree..

You might also try reducing the plug gap on all or just the offenders..see if that helps some also.

hotroddr Doc, another question for the pro- if I run shorter wires, i.e. over the cover rather than up from underneath, will the spark be hotter? Thanks again, Bill

If your running STOCK 8 MM Taylor replacement resistor wires..the resistance per foot is:

8mm Resistor Silicone/EPDM ---->*3500*<---- 500F 354-44R354-26R yellowblue

3500 ohms per foot..

Taylor carries MUCH better the 8.5 spiral core wire that is 350 ohms per foot..

hotroddr Thanks for the thoughts,Paulo. I thought of the ATF- line to intake looks bone dry. Carburated, I keep changing plugs to keep the cylinder firing-#8 is the culprit. #6 a little dark and crusted, but fires. The rest are light brown. I don't know if 15K ohms is normal or not- thanks, Bill

paulo 1 OK.Yes the modern Vortech does use much better seals ,fixed to the guides.
But lets see,it is definitely a problem isolated to that one cylinder only.You could even try swapping wires but I do not think it is the guilty part.Swapping plugs... If it is a multi point injection fuel system,you could have a bad injector.If it is TBI equipped or carbureted,it would more likely be a mechanical problem.How about checking the manifold port of that cylinder sucking for instance,ATF up the tranny tubing?

hotroddr Hi Paulo, Thanks for the input- yup SBC, Vortec heads, I think they have an improved seal, don't they? I don't get a lot of smoke from the bad bank on start-up or long idle, so I'm guessing rings haven't seated? Bill

paulo 1 Avoid using solid plug wires.They cause too much magnetic field pulsing.Even race-cars don't use them anymore.Your dirty plug should be suffering from a different problem.Let me guess,must be a GM with that tiny O-ring valve stem oil seal?

resistance of plug wires?

My new motor,1000miles has a fouled plug.I checked resistance of wire (Taylor)to that cylinder-around 15Kohms. Would I get a hotter spark going to a non-resistance wire? Thanks for the help! Bill
