thats kind of a general question with a lot of variables. All A turbo does is force more air through your motor thereby allowing you to push more fuel through. The more fuel you burn, the more power your able to create. On a mpfi setup your not going to burn any more fuel unless you have your ECM reprogrammed to tell the injectors to spray longer. No reprogramming means either lean air/fuel mix (not good). What type of car are you considering this on? A turbo uses more fuel per se than a supercharger because you must rev the motor higher to get the turbine in the turbo mechanisim fast enough to function.
Im thinkin about putin one on my 3.0 L maxima but i want to keep it as high gas mileage as i can im just not sure how much it will take it down after reprogramming and bigger injectors and wat not
Turbos only use more fuel while they're offering pressure, so the answer is, yes, it will use more fuel if you use enough foot to wake up the turbo.
Its pretty proportional. More air = more fuel. If you want to keep your same mileage, that means you'd have to drive conservatively enough to keep the turbo from spooling up... which then begs the question...why have a turbo if you aren't going to use it?
Also, considering the cost of the turbo (and the fact that you'll almost definitely have to use premium fuel), I doubt you could call it a money saver in any respect.
Great fun, I've had a couple turbo vehicles, but none of them kept their same MPG.
I know many people are going to get on me for telling you this, but there are cases when turbos have improved gas milage. Its not uncommon for milage to stay unaffected at cruise, but if you're racing it all the time then you will see a decrease.
