Has anyone out there ever put bearclaw latches in model A doors? I am finding that unless you mount them really low, they interfere with the window tracks. If I mount them low enough I'm afraid that the top of the door won't be held closed tight enough. Thanks for any help. <img src="graemlins/spank.gif" border="0" alt="[spank]" />
Don't know about an 'A' Tedly but I put my bear claws in the body and just the striker in the door- will that work in your case or not? (as you can tell I work mainly on 50's cars but have a '27 Nash I'm getting into the street rod habit with!) The fact that the wiring is then in the body of the car and not run through the jamb (if electric) makes me more comfortable. Hope it will work.
I fiddled around with the striker in the door, but that doesn't seem to work either because then you have the "post" sticking out of the door and you would have to cut away the body for it to engage in the latch because the door edge actually overlaps the body. But thanks anyway.
I use the original latches in mine, but I have a freind who uses the bear claw trunk latches (smaller than door ones)in his model A's. He does get creative on the install, but can't remember just how he does it. I do know they are in original location (not lowered).
I have the small ones too. Does your friend change the window tracks? That seems to be the only way I can see to use them in the stock location. But I'm still hoping someone knows something I'm overlooking.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't mess with the window track. I remember one of his A's he put the stud on the door (problem with that is no conventional door handle) He has done a couple since then & he puts the latch in the doors now. I'll try hook up with him in a few days (busy trying to prep & paint mine)to get the details for ya'
Any more on this topic??? I'm sittin here in Scotland trying to figure where to put the bearclaws in my A......Don't seem like they will fit anywheres!!
Cheers
