Hi Guys -

I'm looking for a post (I think it was in here) of someone using a drill press and a blunted drill bit to make metal slugs to fill holes in sheet metal. I tried doing a search but for the life of me can't find it.

If anyone knows what I'm refering to, and could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Actually one can make a guide out of 3/4 ply to guide a hole saw..take the center bit out and clamp the sheet metal between the guide and another piece of ply and do that..but then if your using 20 gauge metal just scribe a circle and use a pair of aircraft snips and make your piece..a bit of filing and you are home free..Either way works fine. tho I do the snips deal most days..

I remember that post but I can't find it either  I remember thinking at the time that unless you have a very heavy drill press it would be a lot of strain on it, too much IMO. I think a cheap arbor press with a hard pin mounted to it pushing the sheet metal on a plate with hole a few thousandths bigger than the pin would work better or maybe just a hand punch unless you need to make a lot of slugs..
