building a 350 somthing

What is the best place to research engine parts like What is the best head to use for the 1/8 and what is the best cam to go with the heads,intake etc......

runn141 ive outrun other s10's with 406's with mine and all i had was a 350 .040 over.

baddbob Sell the 350, 327, 305, 283's and put the money into a good build based on a 400. Tell everyone it's a 327 and spin it to 6K with NOS. It'll also be more streetable and quicker with less gear.

the s10 pickup will hookup just as well it is the long wheelbase and ext cab truck that wont, because ive experienced everyone.

well it is a s-10 blazer. I was told the blazer would hook better than the pickup.But I took apart the 327 today and it already has 30 overs and the ridge thats in it will take another 30 to 40 thous to clean up. so that would leave me pretty thin. So I am forced to use the 350.Now what should I get first ?heads?

runn141 for the 1/8 mile i would build an s10 pickup on a 2 wheel drive blazer frame for the shorter wheel base

Tom, I would completey agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that he wants a 1/8th mile rocket.

machine shop tom Personally, I would build the 327. Go with 11:1 compression, 302 Z-28 solid cam, port the 291 heads, etc. You will have around 385-390 HP, it will wind like crazy. It may not be as powerful as a 383, but it will turn heads and won't be the same old mill everybody else is building.

Yea I have thought of that but it would put me in a diffrent "CLASS" if you know what I mean. I think I want to stay SB but I am sure once I put this in mt pocket i'll be looking for a big block.

Lonestar I have never checked on this, but it seems that I have been told a big block Chevy will fit in those S10's with minimal mods...if so that would be the way to go.

In fact a '70 455 Buick warmed up a tad would get you a nice little 1/8th rocket...if you can get it to hook.

Like I said before, 1/8th of a mile is not a long distance, so the trick is to get as much off the line acceleration as possible. A big block would do that at a low rpm therefore decreasing wear AND making a nice dayly cruiser to boot.

On the safe side minimum I would guess about 475+, a freind of mine had a very simular combo N/A 388(.030 over 383), 12:1 comp, AFR 195cc, I dont know his cam or intake though, but his put out peak 503hp on the enigne dyno

I think I posted my reply th wrong way. So....What kind of power are we talking about here? Others are welcome with thier thoughts. I want to use this knowledge to build a weapon

You have to remember that you have a very short distance to get your times in with the 1/8th. This takes brutal torque to get you moving which the 327 is not optimum for.

Yes, you can get the front wheels off the ground with a 327, but it will take dollars and you will have to compromise on streetability.

If you were running the full 1/4, then that's a different story as you have more distance to take advantage of the rpm's...
I would love to set my car up for 1/4 mile but the closest one to me is Rockingham everything thing else around is 1/8. I hate that you can't do that much with a 327 they sure can scream. I fell in love with one in my brothers 67 camaro. I don't want to put mega bucks just in one motor. I want the best bang for my buck of course. Maybe the question I should have asked was Whats the best small block to build for your money?

Top End:

AFR 195cc Runner Heads, Solid Roller cam 240-250* duration at .050 lift 106-108* centerline, 1.7 roller rockers, Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake 750 Holley HP DP Carb

That should get you started.....others may chime in with better choices
