T Bucket

Total Performance has everything you need or want, of course, there are some things you can get by cheaper using recycled parts,(all depends on your wants, and budget), but they have plans, bodys, on and on, I have dealt with them in the past, quality service.............Good Luck

Go here Waay more than I am going to type over..use a 0.120 wall 2x4 box tubing and it will be plenty strong..Rather that mess with a front end get one of the front end kits from TCI or Speeway or whoever else you may like..Avoid chrome and billet and it will save a whole bunch of your cash..

Those things are lite so any good running motor will make one fly..

Good Luck

Several people have built and are building T buckets on this site. Check out the Project Journals and scroll to the bottom of the page and click on "To view a list of all Hotrodders Project Journals, click here." link. This will give you all the journals that have been posted. Some have a few entries and some have complete builds. There is no search function on these pages so you will have to check them all out to find T bucket journals. As well you should check out the National T Bucket Alliance web site and join them. Here is a link to there tech pages where you will find a lot of info you might want to know.

Here are some links to some of the T bucket journals:

And here is another build:

Good to hear you will be building this with your son. Good luck with your project.

Some contend the TBucket is a starter car but it is actually more difficult for a beginner with limited knowledge and skills to build and end up with a decent car than a Model A, 32 or later Ford V8 or a Camaro, or pickup truck.
To build such a simple car requires a good eye to keep proportions correctly balanced and patience to do all the mockup work each step along the way to insure a good product rolls out the garage door two or three years down the road.
For best results buy a body frame package from a single manufacturer in as complete or simple a form as your wallet dictates. Spirit Motors, Total Performance, Speedway Motord and others have these options available.
If you want to scratch build the car, use 2 X 3 X.120 or .180 wall steel rectangular tubing (2 X 4 tubing is cool too if you're using a big heavy torquey engine) available from your lcoal metal yard in 20 foot joints.
Buy the body of your choice including the turtle deck or pickup bed if you choose the 23-25 style.
Then mockup your chassis using 2 X 4 wood rails. This will give you a visual on where your body/bed/deck will be or needs to be and allow you a simpler mockup than using your steel and cutting, welding, cutting, rewelding, etc.

I could say more but I guess you'll have to wait for the book.
