Can any one tell me if there is any difference in the heads from a small block 400 GM and a 350 cid GM, I know about the cooling passage, but what about performance? Thanks bob-cat.
All 400 heads have additional cooling holes because the 400 is a siameezed cylinder block. Heads can easily be drilled to fit a 400. Put a 400 gasket on them and drill the missing holes.
All the stock, from the factory, 400 Chevy heads I've seen were 76cc. The Chevy 350 could have just about any chamber. The heads are interchangeable, with the exception of the 400 block needing the steam holes. You can use 400 heads on any other SBC because the steam holes become irrelevant.
333882 were 1974-1980
462624 were 1975-1986
468642 were 1976- up
all have 76cc chambers
the 462624 came in different valve sizes 1.72/1.5
1.94/1.5
2.02/1.6
hope this helps
No, just a torquer in heavy cars/trucks. Most people shunned it through the mid 80s, but now there are much larger small blocks....... the more things change...
