you mean like a cover? like a trim panel? i was thinking cut the desired shape then cut the holes for the guages then glass that in. does that make sense?

Henry Highrise Use the same instruments and wireing harness that you have now and put them in a custom made dash. You could make the new dash out of fiber glass. Make some stainless steel inserts and trim for it or trim it out with some black walnut.

what about...

glass it! make it different. mold your own fiberglass dash. i want to try to do that for my car but i want someone else to try it first hahaha. no seriously...any tips on that from anyone for us? its a 91 towncar and the dash is ugly. not into the wood trim look. anyone have any pics that i could check out to get a better idea? thanks guys!!!
im not to educated on the lemans but a fg dash would deffinately set it apart. would it be a show car?

Dusty82 Something else to consider is the instrumentation. Just about everything in all modern dashes is electronic, and controlled by the car's computer. That means you're either going to have to import the donor car's computer and wiring into yours, or try to figure out a different speedo, tach, gauges, and even heater controls to fit the donor dash. Something from the 80s or early 90s might work, but as mentioned by others above, it's going to be a lot of work.

You might consider just having your dash pad rebuilt by a place like Just Dashes and clean up everything else that mounts in your dash.

shortyforty Back in the early 70's I decided to customize my '55 Bel Air 2 dr HT. I had a 58 T-birt with a blown engine, so I proceeded to chop out the old 55 dash and installed the complete T-Bird interior, dash, console, front and rear seats and rear side panels. The pieces fit just right and it looked cool but it was a lot of work.

pasadenahotrod Be really different and install a modified 48 Chevrolet dash in your LeMans or a 55 Pontiac dash or a 40 Ford dash, how 'bout it!?

OneMoreTime Can be done but it is a lot of work to get right..new mounting brackets..the new dash will either be too long or too short and need to be molded in to fit and look right..

piercedmikey The top is cracked and could probably be fixed with a dash pad, but I am putting a late model console, shifter and seats in it, so I figured I'd try and update the dash too.

poncho62 Like you say, it depends how close a fit it is......Usually, though, unless you put a lot of time and effort into it, it just looks and works bad............

Why do you want to do this, what wrong with your present dash?

I want to put a newer dash into my 72 LeMans, I'm not sure what yet, but I figured since a lot of rodders do this type of thing, I could ask here. What is actually involved when you do this? Do you need to fab new brackets? I haven't been behind a dashboard yet, so I'm not sure how much work goes into it...I figured if I measured and could find somethng of similar size at the boneyard to make it work...any suggestions? Thanks
