I just got my new Harbor Freight Catalog and the 43430 is on sale for 39.99. I typed the catalog number 43430-8RUH online but it says 49.99. May have to phone order it. I know if you take the catalog into the store they honor that price. I heard you guys talk about this thing and for the money it can't be all bad.

TT66, This has been discussed a bunch in the body/exterior section and the general opinion is that it will do a great job, just do a search on 43430 and maybe- purple gun (that's what most of the guys call it) and you will see what I mean. On the advice of some of the guys here I bought a couple of those things and I found they will lay down paint about as slick as you can hope for and even though I now have an IWATA pro type gun I still use my "purple guns" sometimes. Be warned they are air hogs and need about 15 CFM to work properly and to perform to their best they need to be set to a higher pressure than recommended, I use about 40 PSI at the gun. At first I was a bit disappointed with the quality, both wrenches broke trying to remove the tips on them before using them the first time. I then discovered that this seems to happen to most of them and once you get that danged thing off it will not be a problem anymore, I can't imagine why they send those things that tight. I have had mine for a couple of years now and other than that tip problem (more of an annoyance than a problem) I have found them to be well worth the cost and if you are doing BC/CC paint they do a really good job on the clear once you get the adjustments pinned down.

I bought this setup from HF last week...

20 oz. gravity feed gun with 1.4 mm tip for top coats, 1.8 mm tip for primers
4.2 oz. detail gun with 1.0 mm tip
Lightweight aluminum construction with stainless steel needles and tips
Heavy duty nylon gravity cups
Comes with paint filter, two bristle brushes and one wool brush for cleaning, plus durable storage case; Operating pressure: 30-35 PSI (large gun), 25-30 PSI (small gun); Air consumption: 12 CFM @ 43 PSI (large gun), 9 CFM @ 43 PSI (detail gun); Air inlet: 1/4" - 19 NPS; Shipping weight: 4.6 lbs.

ITEM 94572-0VGA
59.95

I haven't sprayed anything...the gun looks alright for the price, but not your high-end gun for sure...

I got this because of the 2 tips and needles, the detail gun, cfm seemed reasonable, and it was dirt cheap...since I'm mostly priming right now this should give me something to use until I get some more $$ together for a finish gun.

Been, That's something I quickly noticed after I got my IWATA, just how much overspray those "econo" guns seem to make. With the price of material being what it is  it would seem to me that after doing only a couple of jobs then the higher end guns like the IWATA, for example, would actually be cheaper. When you are putting material on the car and not the floor then it does not take long at all to save enough in wasted paint/clear to pay the difference in the cost of the gun, seems that way to me anyway.

The purple HF HVLP 43430 gun does a good job IF you have a big enough compressor to run 40+ psi with 10 to 12 cfm at the gun and you don't mind the entire area being the same color you are painting. About everything in my garage has a nice SPI epoxy gray cast to it now :pain:

Consider an Astro if you need/want a low price HVLP gun. While I haven't used one, most users say they work nicely for less then an evening out with your significant other :mwink:
